Her Story

About Alexis

When I was in college, I actually started school in dietetics. I was about to graduate in dietetics, and I told my mom, I was like, I'm bored, I wanna interact and socialize more with people. So my dad was like, why don't you look into human resources? And at the time, I truly did not even know what that was. I met with my advisor, who we're actually still very close to this day, and she is in HR as well. She has her doctorates and everything, and she was like, I think you would be a great fit. Before I just changed my major, I got into SHRM, the organization at Nichols, and I was a recruiter for SHRM. So I would go to different high schools and recruit people to come to Nichols and explain all of the programs and the classes that we have, and that's when I told her, I was like, I want to be a recruiter. I like to talk to people, but mainly when it comes to recruiting for a position, I like the phone call that I give people to say, hey, you got the job. There's groups of interviews, there's 10 or so people that interview for certain positions, and just having that one phone call with them just lights me up every single time, because I like helping people, and even though I don't work in a hospital, I'm helping people make a living. I'm helping people have income. I'm helping people grow in the industry that they're in.

Ten minutes with Alexis

01What do you attribute your success to?

I would definitely say my family. You know, growing up, we had a tough life. I had a single mom, you know, my grandmother never went to college, my mom didn't go to college, so my strength to get through college and get a good job coming out of college and build the career that I have now is definitely because of my family and how hard they pushed me to be better than what they were. It takes a village, and my poor fiance hears it all the time. My 35 minutes after that drive home from work is nothing about work, because we don't bring work home, but that drive home for both of us is our work talk.

02What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Definitely self-growth. Growth, self-growth is definitely something that I am very valued with, you know, having self-respect, accountability, for sure, you know, integrity, because it's a lot of consistency of what I do with my life, so what I value is how I am, is also what I like to bring into my life. Again, you know, self-respect, integrity, resilience, really. I'm trying to be more stronger, and that's what I value a lot, is how I am as a person myself, and how I can be better of a person for who I am.
