Her Story
About Amy
I started in the food and beverage industry when I was young, working as a casual dining restaurant employee for a long time. That experience led me to an internship with Disney World, where I worked for 4 months. After that, I went back and started learning how to climb the corporate ladder in the food and beverage industry, becoming a trainer and learning to run any position in the front of the house and most positions in the back of the house. When I got my first degree in administration, I applied to become the office manager for the home office of Chewy's in Austin, Texas, and ran their home office for 3 years until they were bought out by Darden Restaurants. I worked for several companies over the years, including Brahms and Chewy's for a long time, and really learned how to climb within those companies to bring my best skill set forward. One of my most notable achievements was helping develop a training program for the clerical role at Chewy's. I traveled with them and opened up 20 of their restaurants, and during that time, myself and a partner developed that role to be what it is today. After 12 years with Chewy's, the buyout forced a change, which I took as an opportunity to switch it up and move into something more aligned with my degree. Now I'm a business office manager for Touchmark Living Centers, an upscale retirement community, where I have a dual role working for both the staff and the residents, handling billing, financial records, confidential employee records, HR, and accounting accuracy.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would say to her that she can climb the ladder without diminishing who she is as a person. She can put her name and face out there because of her skills, because of her work ethic.
