Annika Villanueva
Annika Villanueva is a dedicated Civil Engineering student-athlete at Stevens Institute of Technology with a strong interest in sustainability and Environmental Engineering. She is pursuing a Bachelor of Engineering with a potential minor in Environmental Engineering and green energy. Balancing academics and athletics, Annika actively competes in cross country and track while maintaining her focus on developing skills that will prepare her for cooperative education and internship opportunities in the civil and environmental engineering fields. Beyond her academic and athletic pursuits, Annika is deeply committed to community involvement and leadership. She currently serves as the Freshman Representative for the Filipino Association at Stevens Tech (FAST), where she advocates for her peers, facilitates cultural events, and promotes engagement with the broader campus community. Annika’s dedication to mentorship and youth advocacy is also evident through her work as a Summer Camp Counselor at FFFNE Pinoy Camp, where she supports campers’ learning experiences and fosters appreciation for Filipino culture. Annika’s experiences reflect a balance of technical ambition, leadership, and service. She is passionate about applying her engineering knowledge to sustainability challenges while building strong connections within her community. Her proactive approach to both professional and extracurricular opportunities position her as a driven, well-rounded individual poised to make a meaningful impact in her field and beyond.

What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to my genuine interest in Civil Engineering and my dedication to learning and growing in the field.
What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I’ve received is to pursue my passions both inside and outside of academics, including my commitment to sports as a student-athlete, which has taught me discipline, teamwork, and perseverance.
What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would advise young women not to be discouraged by entering a male-dominated field. Stay confident, assert yourself, and focus on building your skills and expertise.
What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges is navigating a male-dominated industry, which requires earning respect and demonstrating competence. However, this also presents an opportunity to stand out and inspire others by proving what women can achieve in engineering.
What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
I value determination and the drive to accomplish anything I set my mind to. As a student, I am excited to achieve my goals and embrace challenges that help me grow personally and professionally.
