Her Story
About Crystal
I've been in my field for about 10 years. I started as an accountant for a long time, but on the side I would always use my free time to do photography and videography, going to events, taking portraits, and all that good stuff. It was definitely a change from accounting to photography, but now I'm doing photography full-time and I love it. I continue doing bigger events now, like weddings, graduations, Sweet Sixteens and things like that. Now I'm moving into film, and I've been part of some short films this year. When meeting with a client, I either meet them at my studio or at a location depending on if they want to do outside shoots. I spend about an hour or two doing the photo shoots, then I upload the pictures into my software, Adobe Lightroom, and start the intense editing process where I select the pictures I want. I work on the lighting and bringing out the actual picture. If there are things I need to remove or modify, I run it through Photoshop for more intense edits. Then I have a client call to make sure they like the ones they do, and based on their package, I add more if they want. I do final touch-ups, download them, and deliver them through Google Drive, though some clients want them printed so I use different vendors for printing. I have a bachelor's degree in accounting, and I'm currently attending Central New Mexico College for Film Production to get my associate's and then bachelor's degree so I can make connections and learn about other skills like editing.

01What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Being that I'm always wanting to do a lot of stuff and I'm always on the run, someone told me that when things are due and things are being hectic, that's when I need to slow down, and things will work out, versus trying to be hectic and running all over the place. So just slowing down and really focusing on what needs to be done, and prioritizing also. There's been times with film that stress can come in right away, and I've learned that slowing down really helps.
