Her Story
About Cyntia
I just started as a Supplier Relationship Manager at Avetta two months ago, transitioning into the supply chain industry. Before this, I worked in hospitality as a Customer Success Manager, and I'm most proud of my ability to pivot across several different industries while achieving success in each one. I know some people concentrate on one area or niche, but due to necessity, I've had to pivot and try different niches and areas, and I've found success in all of them. My main area of expertise is relationship management - it's really my forte. I excel at talking to customers and getting them engaged in the value of the product. I also have several years of experience working with Latin American business, which I understand well not only because I speak Portuguese and Spanish, but also because I understand the business language and how Latin America works business-wise. I hold a bachelor's degree in Art Education from Universidade Federal di Pernambuco in Brazil, which I completed in 1994, and a master's degree in Drama Therapy from Brigham Young University here in Utah, which I graduated from in 2005. I'm certified in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, and I'm an active member of Utah Women in Sales and Salt Lake City Women in Business.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Cyntia
01What do you attribute your success to?
The necessity to pay bills, above all. But I think it's also family-wise. I come from a family where we always told each other that we don't give up, and we work hard. My parents were always very honest, very hardworking, so I credit a lot of my work ethic to the behavior that I saw them display. I have family support - I have a family that I need to support as well, so they motivate me.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would say get to know the industry itself. Try to soak up as much as possible about it, listen to podcasts. And also network - go to LinkedIn, look at companies that are at the top in the niche, and try to follow them, network with them. If they have events online or in person, if you can attend, attend them. That would be my best advice.
03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Challenges, I would say, would be the general uncertainty of the economy, especially with politics and all that's going around in the world. Some clients are being very conservative with their budgets, which means the suppliers are not getting as much work. And now a platform allows them to connect, but if those connections don't lead to revenue, then they don't want to use the platform. I'd say that's the main challenge right now.
