Her Story

About Dakota

I serve as the Director of Community Development for Pensacola Habitat for Humanity, where I've been working in the nonprofit field for almost 5 years. My program offers assistance for home repairs and other services that can enhance the quality of life for residents in two counties. We focus on engaging and empowering residents to revive their neighborhoods and become leaders in their communities. The repairs we handle are critical home repairs, things that sustain the homeowner and help them stay in their home. They can also be aging-in-place modifications. We look at roofs, windows, doors, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, ramps, walk-in showers, grab bars, those types of things. In my time as Director, I've completed over 150 home repairs across two counties and grown the program's budget to $1.3 million. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Human Services in 2022. I'm a member of the Pensacola Young Professionals and was featured in Inweekly's 2026 Rising Stars. Outside of work, I'm a mother and wife with a young son, so a lot of my weekends are spent with my son and my family. I'm also interested in woodworking and being engaged in the community. It's nice to build that trust and be relatable and have rapport with the residents in the area. I love that Pensacola is really becoming a rising culinary arts destination with lots of fine dining options, so I've been enjoying that as well.

Ten minutes with Dakota

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to my mentors. They have been instrumental in helping me get to where I am today.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I ever received was to build trust and not just focus on the projects. It's about the relationships and the people, not just getting the work done.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would say to find great mentors in what you're interested in, and be a sponge to them. Take everything you possibly can from their experiences, from their wisdom, and just take that guidance from your mentors.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

I think right now in our field, it would probably be capacity and funding opportunities. A lot of my funding right now is restricted to the age of 62 plus, so I'm not seeing a lot of funding opportunities that open it up under 62, but homeowners need repairs just like the elderly community does. So I would say, much like everybody else, capacity and funding are the biggest challenges.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Integrity is the most important value to me in both my work and personal life. It guides everything I do and how I interact with others.
