Her Story

About Daniella

My career in aviation began at the University of Florida where I studied mechanical engineering and discovered Delta Airlines' co-op program. I've always loved aviation, so I applied and was accepted into their rotational program, completing four semesters alternating between studying at school and working at Delta's maintenance facility in Atlanta, Georgia. My passion for aviation only grew stronger through this experience. After graduating in 2018, I was hired as a full-time engineer at Delta Airlines, working in various departments and gaining extensive experience across the commercial aviation sector. During the pandemic, I felt I had learned so much at Delta and wanted to try something different, which led me to consulting. I interviewed with Deloitte and have been there for the past four years, working on the Navy account, specifically Navira, which is the aviation sector of the Navy. I work with their maintenance facilities where they perform maintenance on helicopters, jets, and aircraft for the Navy, Army, and Air Force. My work focuses on helping them implement new technology to digitalize their shop floors, moving away from manual processes and paper trails to more efficient digital systems. I also lead a team through Deloitte's skill-based volunteering program called Deloitte 2 International, where we provide free consulting services to international nonprofits. I work with We Robotics and their Flying Labs franchises around the world, helping communities use drone technology, robotics, and AI for disaster response, agriculture, flood mapping, and emergency preparedness. I'm currently pursuing my master's degree in international business management, taking two classes per semester to make it manageable alongside my work.

01What do you attribute your success to?

I would have to say my mom. Her making that decision to leave Venezuela, even though my sister and I were just teenagers, and identifying that our country was getting more dangerous by the day - we were actually robbed at gunpoint when I was younger. She realized we needed to leave, and even though she didn't have much to her name, she took the risk of bringing two teenagers by herself to a whole new country. She didn't know how it works, the rules, how everything works. I just owe everything that I have to her, definitely. Seeing my mom leave her country where she had all her life to come to the United States for us, for my sister and I, to have the opportunity of having better education and better job opportunities - I think that's always like, wow, if she can do it, I can do anything.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Don't be afraid to ask questions. I know this is going to seem very simple, but I think it's helped me a lot. A lot of people, especially being a woman in a sector where it's mostly male-dominated, it can be very intimidating to ask questions. When I was at Delta, I was also very young, and you're in a meeting and you're the only female in the room. I've realized that most of the time, you're not the only person with that question in mind. If I'm always doubting myself or I feel maybe a little bit of shame or anything like that, I'm like, no, probably somebody else could have this question as well, and in order to do my job better, I need to ask the question.
