Her Story

About Dr. Morrisia

I started my career in mental health counseling, working in a prison setting. I realized I had a mindset and a heart for helping people, and I wanted to reach young people first before they ended up in difficult situations like that. That's how I ended up in education. I've been in education for a few years now, and after I got my doctorate degree, I moved into higher education where I currently serve as Assistant Vice President for Student Life at Warner University, overseeing student life and our Residential Life Department. I also teach counseling courses part-time as an adjunct professor. Beyond my work in higher education, I own Inspire General Cleaning, a home cleaning business where we do a lot throughout the community, serving different communities and helping the elderly with cleaning services. I'm getting ready this Sunday to feed the homeless at a shelter. I've always had a passion and love for helping people - that's always been my number one goal. I come from a really good family. Most of my aunts and uncles are pastors and preachers. My mom was a single mother, but my dad became active in my life a little later, and I'm very close with him now. He had a drug addiction, and that kind of pushed me in a spiral to get out and do more and pursue my dreams. I'm very active throughout the community, volunteering at shelters, local church events, and within my university. I travel around speaking at different youth events and women's events. I'm currently writing a book called 'Leading Without Titles: An Authentic Approach to Successful Leadership' that I hope to have finished by August. My next project is opening Inspire Coaching and Consulting to serve Christian environments, youth, and ministry throughout the community.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Dr. Morrisia

01What do you attribute your success to?

I really believe it's prayer. Besides managing my personal life and my work life, I'm very active in my church and in ministries. I really believe in that meditation piece - that's the only thing I believe that really keeps me going. That's my recharge, my refill. I take time, like I'm doing now on the beach for a few days, just me and God, just on the beach, just some time to think and refocus. I call it my refocus, my recharge, and my reset moment. I quote Philippians 4:13 daily - 'I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me' - because I really believe that, and that's what carries me through the next day. By the grace of God, it keeps me going.

02What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

I'm 41, and I really wish that when I was growing up during these day and times, I had a lot of these things that were available - these different resources to kind of help me back then. This world is so different, so much is going on. Now I've had to get out there and learn it, and I've done that by just being so involved, just putting myself out there, putting myself available, and just being that willing and that helping hand. Throughout my career, I've had the opportunity to attend so many different conferences, and that's helped as well.

03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

I've always had a passion and love for helping people - that's always been my number one goal. I have a mindset and a heart for helping people. I wanted to help our young people and reach them first before they end up in a bad situation or place. I love volunteering my time and I'm really busy throughout the community. Anywhere I can volunteer my time, I'm really huge on volunteering. I come from a really good family - most of my aunts and uncles are pastors and preachers. My mom was a single mother, but my dad became active in my life later. He had a drug addiction, and that pushed me to get out and do more and pursue my dreams. I'm very active in my church and in ministries. I really believe in that meditation piece, prayer, and taking time to refocus, recharge, and reset. I quote Philippians 4:13 daily: 'I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.'
