Her Story

About Genesis

I'm currently pursuing my marketing degree at the University of North Carolina, Wilmington, where I'll be finishing in December of 2026. Being a first generation student in my family, this journey feels like a blessing. Professionally, my approach is centered on continuous self-improvement. I push myself to be better than the day before, always identifying where I can improve and where I've fallen short. When I'm struggling in a certain area, especially in my communication classes, I don't give up. I go back and try to understand it, going over it again and again until I can actually understand it more. I've been recognized for my leadership and the way I carry myself. I'm not afraid to make changes, speak out, or be outgoing. The challenges I face include navigating the education system as a Hispanic person, especially during times when there's a lot going on with the Hispanic community. There's a lot of judgment and people who are not very educated about our experiences. But I see this as an opportunity to speak out, use my voice, and represent everyone in my community and my culture.

01What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best advice I've ever received was really from my best friend. I've always struggled with people's opinions, when people think about me, their perspectives on me, their views. And I was told to always fill myself with love, to always do everything with love, not with hatred, to make a difference. I think that's one of the best advice that I've received.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Don't be afraid to take risks, and it's okay. It's okay to not have everything figured out.

03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The challenges I face now include navigating the education system. There's a lot of people who are not very educated, and there's a lot of judgment. I feel like that's very hard, mostly for me as a Hispanic person, especially at times when there's a lot going on with the Hispanic community. That's very challenging. The opportunity for me would be being able to speak out and use my voice and be able to represent everyone in my community and my culture.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values most important to me personally and academically are integrity, honesty, and compassion. Honesty is one of my big ones. I feel like those are my top three.
