Q

What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to the incredible support I received from my supervisors, my manager, and my husband. Having strong leadership support at work, combined with personal support at home, has been crucial in helping me grow and succeed throughout my career.

Q

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Don't overthink it, and really just breathe. Even on the stressful days, it's not gonna stay that way all the time. So, take a deep breath, walk away for a second, because this work can definitely be super stressed. We could work 24 hours a day and not be done, so just know that it's always gonna be okay.

Q

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would say that you definitely need to believe in yourself early on. Trust your instincts and believe in yourself that you can do more. In this field, you can take it anywhere you want to go - there's so many opportunities. If you let someone tell you you're not good enough, then you're just gonna stay in that one position forever. If you don't advocate for yourself in this industry, no one's gonna promote you just because they like you. You have to say, 'I want a new job, I want more.' I stayed in the same spot for a long time because I thought, 'Oh, I don't think I'm good enough. I haven't done this long enough.' But really, I was better than most of these people. So believe in yourself, trust your instincts, and advocate for what you deserve.

Q

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

You don't see a lot of women in leadership positions. There's a lot of women in claims, but there's not a lot of women in leadership positions. If you go to my company's big events, every person is not a woman. The higher up you get, the less women you see, and the harder it seems to be. I don't think they're saying anything about that directly, but the look is there - you can see it.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Being honest, communication, and follow through are the most important values to me. Communication is probably the biggest thing in general, in all things. If you communicate, even if you don't know the answers to anything, just tell me, 'Hey, I'm gonna do this,' and then follow through. I'm only gonna hold you to the level you're telling me you're gonna do. If you're telling me you're gonna complete these 18 things, or you're gonna wash the dishes, just do those things. It's about doing what you say you're gonna do.
