Her Story
About Jennifer
I've been in medical operating room sales for about 30 years, always working with startup companies in the medical field. My dad was in the same industry, which really inspired me to pursue this career path. Currently, I'm in my third year with my current company, where I manage a team of about 12 reps. My main area of expertise is operating room startup companies. We just came out with a new product called Silk, which is really groundbreaking. It's a new last layer of closure for pretty much all specialties in the operating room. One of my most notable achievements is that I ran the Orange County Society of Plastic Surgeons meetings every month for about 18 years, which has been a very big honor. I'm now a part owner and investor in my current company, and this is going to be probably my last career before I retire.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Jennifer
01What do you attribute your success to?
I would say my relationships and a lot of networking. I give back to my industry and help out as best I can. You know, I've been doing this for so long, and having the right contacts and the right people in place makes everything very easy. I always tell people you never know who your boss is going to be tomorrow, so never burn your bridges anywhere you work.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
See the right people, say the right thing, and do it often.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would just say talk to every stranger and attend trade shows, meet people. Really, just keep your name out there. Talk to every stranger that you know in the industry, and just always keep... you never know who your boss is going to be tomorrow, so I always tell people, you know, just never burn your bridges anywhere you work.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
I just think when you've got something really cool in the world, you want to tell the world, it's always a challenge. But you know, when you've been doing this for so long, having the right contacts and the right people in place, it makes it very easy.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
I would say a work and family balance. And also bringing something to the table that you sell, that you believe in, and that's going to help the world out, and the medical industry and patients, ultimately.
