Jessica Barber

Executive Director
Louisiana High School Coaches Association
Baton Rouge, LA 70438

Jessica Barber is the Executive Director of the Louisiana High School Coaches Association, a position she has held since June 2025. She oversees more than 12,000 coaches and approximately 400 schools across the state, serving as a vital link between coaches, the state athletic association, and the board. In her role, she organizes statewide clinics, all-star events, and membership services, ensuring coaches have the support and resources they need to thrive. Jessica is the youngest person and the only female in the country to hold this position, reflecting her exceptional leadership, dedication, and pioneering spirit within the coaching community.

Jessica’s professional focus is built on relationships — fostering trust, mentoring coaches, and advocating for both coaches and student-athletes. She prioritizes practical support, coach education, and opportunities that strengthen Louisiana’s high school athletics ecosystem. Her leadership philosophy is grounded in service, collaboration, and creating environments where athletes and professionals can grow. Jessica is known for her hands-on, approachable style, consistently striving to make a positive impact on the people and programs she serves.

Beyond her professional achievements, Jessica brings the same passion and energy to her personal life. She loves walking and staying active, attending local festivals, and celebrating Louisiana’s rich culture — especially Mardi Gras. These interests reflect her connection to her community and her appreciation for life outside of sports. Her career began as a collegiate player at the University of Mobile, followed by seven years as a high school head coach and a transition into college coaching, including serving as a recruiting coordinator while earning her Master of Science in Sport and Fitness Administration/Management from The University of Southern Mississippi. Jessica’s combination of professional expertise, leadership excellence, and personal authenticity makes her a respected and inspiring figure in the athletics world.

Q

What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to my parents, who were intentional about placing me in environments that nurtured my ability to build strong relationships and sharpened my natural talent for understanding and treating people well. These qualities have allowed me to connect authentically with athletes and colleagues, build trust, and create a positive, lasting impact both on and off the court.

Q

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

When your reputation consistently precedes you, your résumé becomes a confirmation rather than a first impression

Q

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Jessica urges young women to look beyond traditional coaching roles and recognize the breadth of opportunities in sport, to find mentors who challenge and support them, and to claim leadership positions that ensure women are consistently represented at the table.

Q

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges is the underrepresentation of women in leadership roles. At the same time, that creates an opportunity to intentionally develop, mentor, and elevate women so leadership better reflects the people it serves.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Integrity, relationships, and accountability guide me in both work and life. How you treat people, build trust, and show up consistently matters most.
