Her Story

About Kasie

Anytime I think about what led me to this field, the one line that comes to mind is: I want to be the person I needed when I was a kid. Being able to give back to the people who helped get me through, and really make sure that no kid and no adult ever felt hopeless or alone or stuck - that's what brought me here. I'm able to provide the coping skills and the support and hope in general. In my current role as a behavioral health team lead, I supervise about 6 to 8 people and still do direct therapy for a caseload of clients. I do a little bit of both. I've also supervised interns and clinically supervised folks who are working on getting their own licensures. What I love most about this work are those really key moments where I'm sitting in front of someone and they have a realization, or they look at you and the smile just goes across their face, or that feeling of them coming back and saying, wow, I feel better, or this is a lot easier, or hey, this is working. Being able to see that change in them, and see them living a life that they want to live, not held back by some of the challenges or struggles they were previously experiencing - just being able to see them grow and learn and turn into the people they want to be, not impacted by their mental health.

01What do you attribute your success to?

Definitely, and I know this can seem cliche, but definitely my family. I've had some really good family members in my life who've helped stick by me, support me, provide positive feedback when I'm having a hard day, or provide some serious feedback when maybe I'm not in the right. Being able to help me learn and grow from those moments when I do fall, in a way that is always reminding me that I am loved and I have a safe place. My family really highlighted the importance of getting an education and they supported me through that. They've been there through everything - helping me push through my own mental health challenges and low-income barriers, and really bringing myself out of this to find the life that I want for me, and the life that makes me feel fulfilled.
