Ten minutes with Leslie

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to perseverance, resilience, and a strong commitment to personal and professional growth, particularly shaped by overcoming personal loss and using those experiences as motivation to move forward. My interest in Human Resources was inspired by my own challenging interview experiences, where I often felt unconfident and encountered rushed, impersonal processes, which led me to want to be on the other side of hiring. I strive to create a more thoughtful and human-centered approach by seeing candidates as individuals, focusing on their skills, potential, and personality rather than appearance or first impressions, and ensuring they feel valued, supported, and genuinely understood throughout the hiring process.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering this industry is to go in without rigid expectations and instead focus on shaping your own path and experience. You can’t expect everyone to immediately accept or understand you, but you can approach every interaction with curiosity, professionalism, and a willingness to understand others. Be patient and kind with yourself, ask questions, and don’t be discouraged by rejection. I’ve personally submitted countless applications and faced repeated turn-downs, but persistence made all the difference. Keep pushing forward, because eventually the right opportunity will come—and when it does, it will align you with people who recognize your value, support your growth, and place you in an environment where you can thrive or be developed into it.

03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values most important to me in both my work and personal life are inclusion, treating people as individuals, service to community, resilience, faith, and strong organizational habits. I believe in creating environments where people feel seen and respected for who they are, rather than being reduced to labels or assumptions. Service to others and contributing positively to my community are central to how I approach both my career and personal interactions. Resilience has also been a guiding value, helping me stay grounded and persistent through challenges, while my faith provides strength and direction. Additionally, I rely on strong organizational habits to stay focused, accountable, and effective in everything I do.
