Her Story
About Liley
I've been working as a bookkeeper for the Diocese of Mississippi for 34 years now, and I'm proud to say I'm the longest-serving employee here. This is my fourth bishop that I've worked for in the Episcopal Church, and it's been a pleasure. Before I came here, I was doing accounting for 5 years. I got this job because my former supervisor, who I had worked for along with her husband, was working at the Diocese and was looking for an accountant. Her husband actually told her I was looking for a job, and she remembered me. She has since retired, but I'm still going strong. My day-to-day responsibilities include all payables and deposits, and I'm responsible for payroll, taxes, and AP. One of my proudest moments has been my longevity here and the trust that's been placed in me through four different bishops. I just recently changed software systems, so I'm having to learn a new system, but it's fun and I'm not opposed to it. The biggest challenge in my field is just keeping up with the software and the changes. I'm looking forward to retiring in 5 years so I can enjoy my grandkids and have more freedom to travel, which I already do a lot of.

01What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenge in my field right now is just keeping up with the software and the changes. I just changed software systems here, so I'm having to learn a new system. But it's fun, and I'm not opposed to it. The technology keeps evolving, and you have to be willing to adapt and learn new systems as they come along.
