Her Story
About Mackenzie
I've been in the fintech industry for 6 years now, and I'm currently the Regional Sales Director at Paymentus, where I've been for a little over 2 years. My journey started when I was an intern at NCR during college, and after graduation, I got a job offer and started working there full-time remotely during COVID. I was there for 4 years before coming over to Paymentus. My dad was actually in the field, which is how I got into it, but I love sales because I love connecting people with what they need and what would help them evolve. In my role, I focus heavily on relationship building and long-term value. In fintech, products evolve really quickly, but trust doesn't, so I've really built my career by being someone clients and teams can rely on, not just to sell, but well after. I really focus on building the trust and relationship, and then the products come naturally. One of the biggest challenges as a young woman in the fintech banking industry is to not wait until you feel 100% ready, so just making sure that you show up and build that credibility. I attribute my success to showing up before I feel ready, accepting new opportunities and challenges, and really immersing myself into it.

Ten minutes with Mackenzie
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to showing up before I feel ready. Anytime I never feel 100% ready for a role, I accept new opportunities and challenges and really immerse myself into it. I believe that you'll always be more prepared than you think you are, so it's really just about making sure that you show up and build that credibility, especially as a young woman in the fintech banking industry.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I've ever received is to put yourself in rooms where you're still learning. If you are the most experienced person in the room, then you're not growing fast enough. I believe in constantly challenging myself and surrounding myself with people who push me to learn and develop further.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
You don't need to have it all mapped out, you just need to be willing to figure it out faster than you doubt yourself. Don't wait until you feel 100% ready, because you'll always be more prepared than you think you are. Just show up and build that credibility, especially as a young woman in the fintech banking industry.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values most important to me in my personal and professional life are integrity, consistency, and empathy. I believe in doing what you say you're going to do, and showing up the same way every day, whether it's at work or at home, and just being wholeheartedly you. These values guide how I build relationships with clients and teams, and how I live my life overall.
