I attribute my success to a combination of my love for learning, my persistence, and, above all, my empathy and commitment to making a meaningful difference in every community I serve.
What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
For young women entering this field, I would say that it is a truly rewarding field where your creativity can grow and be impactful, and while there are challenges, it is worth every effort. Being a librarian has given me valuable skills beyond librarianship—it can open doors in nonprofit work, administration, and community outreach. You are on the front lines of serving the public, so approaching your work with empathy and a genuine desire to make a difference is essential. Some days will be tougher than others, but the impact you make is meaningful. Every day, I am motivated to return to work because I know that what I do truly matters.
What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenge in my field is combating censorship and book bans, which remain very real today. At the same time, libraries are evolving with technology—offering e-books, tech classes, and resources that support education and career development. I love that my work helps protect access to information and promote literacy, making a meaningful impact every day.
What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values that guide me in both my work and personal life are empathy, lifelong learning, community service, advocacy for mental health and neurodiversity, and protecting access to information.
