Q

What do you attribute your success to?

I credit my success to the values that guide me every day—kindness, respect, teamwork, and the unwavering support of my family. My faith in God has also grounded me and given me strength through every stage of my journey. I’ve also been fortunate to learn from mentors who shaped my growth. Victoria Mendiola, my first dialysis trainer, laid the foundation for my clinical confidence. Later, during my master’s program, Donna Grant supported me through my clinicals and helped me elevate my skills and leadership. Their guidance, combined with my values and support system, has made all the difference in my career.

Q

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I’ve ever received was to surround myself with supportive leadership. Having managers who encourage growth, listen, and advocate for their team can make all the difference in how you develop and thrive in your career. I’ve also stayed inspired by the impact of the work itself. Seeing patients improve through dialysis—watching their strength return and their quality of life increase—has continually reinforced my purpose and commitment to this field.

Q

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would encourage young women entering this field to give themselves the gift of time and commitment. Devote at least one full year before deciding whether the profession is right for you. The first months can feel overwhelming as you adjust to the pace, expectations, and responsibilities, but growth and confidence come with experience. By committing to that first year, you allow yourself the opportunity to truly understand the work, develop your skills, and see the impact you can make before making a decision about your future in the field.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

ChatGPT said: Family and faith are at the heart of everything I do, both personally and professionally. I value creating a life where my work aligns with the same principles I live by at home—integrity, compassion, and balance. Being a mother of three, with children ages 16, 13, and 11, has shaped how I show up in every area of my life. It’s taught me patience, perspective, and the importance of being present. Outside of work, I make space for the things that bring me joy and help me recharge. I love roller skating, playing tennis, and singing karaoke—those hobbies keep me active, grounded, and connected to myself. Ultimately, my values guide how I lead, care for others, and make decisions, whether I’m with my family, my patients, or my team.
