Her Story

About Melissa

Throughout my 28-year career in the medical profession, I have worked in both clinical and administrative settings, managing all types of specialties from pediatrics to geriatrics in private corporations along with hospital corporations. In my current role, which I've held for two and a half years, I manage surgeons and all medical staff, wearing a multifaceted hat from being able to work at my front desk to working with my providers on the floor in a clinical setting, to performance evaluations, to budget management. I opened a brand new $64 million facility that I'm currently in, which is the second facility opening of my career. My main areas of expertise are networking, collaboration, and transformation of teams. I teach and train all of CPR for my role, so I'm just a hub and home of people, teaching them how to do their job and learning new tools in my tool belt for myself too. I'm also a life coach on the side, helping someone be their best version of themselves through advice, mentoring, coaching, or just listening, whatever they need in that moment.

Ten minutes with Melissa

01What do you attribute your success to?

I would say, really, since my whole career is medical, it's making a difference in each patient's life during their journey that they're going through. It's obviously rewarding, and then yet there are experiences of death, and knowing that I've walked somebody through the journey, and they remembered me when they passed away, so that's huge. I think it's just helping someone be their best version of themselves, whatever advice, or mentoring, or coaching, or just listening, whatever you need in that moment.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice would be sky's the limit. Believe in yourself. That you can do all things. I think that women just need to support each other and be each other's soundboard in life, versus kind of looking at someone and judging, right? And not knowing their background, their history, right? So that's the key to life, is just give someone the opportunity versus prejudgment. And how do you say that? Along your whole life, right? Yeah, just be open. You know, the world is too judgmental.
