Morgan Georgetown is the Director of Enforcement at the Louisiana Professional Engineering and Land Surveying Board (LAPELS), where she oversees regulatory compliance for professional engineers and land surveyors across the state. In her role, she leads investigations, audits, and case management efforts, ensuring that Board laws and rules are enforced with fairness, consistency, and transparency. Morgan specializes in firm licensure compliance, technical practice reviews, and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) audits, serving as a key resource for licensees and the public on regulatory inquiries and scope-of-practice matters.

Morgan began her professional journey with a Bachelor of Science in Communication Sciences and Disorders from Southeastern Louisiana University, developing strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills that she applies daily in enforcement and compliance work. Her career path took her through roles in education and administrative services, where she discovered her passion for regulatory compliance and helping organizations follow rules with integrity. She has steadily advanced at LAPELS, becoming the first Black woman to serve as Director of Enforcement and building a team that emphasizes organization, consistency, and collaborative problem-solving.

Currently pursuing an MBA at Western Governors University, Morgan continues to strengthen her leadership and management expertise. She is committed to ethical, team-oriented supervision and fostering a supportive work environment where employees feel valued and empowered. Through her work, Morgan aims to drive meaningful improvements in enforcement processes, enhance professional accountability, and make a lasting positive impact on the engineering and land surveying community in Louisiana.

What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to a combination of dedication, hard work, and a continuous commitment to refining my management skills. Achieving the role of Director of Enforcement was the result of building a strong, cohesive team, streamlining enforcement processes, ensuring consistency through accurate data management, and genuinely enjoying the work I do every day.

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering this industry is to confidently demonstrate that we can excel in every role just as men can. Be visible in leadership and high-responsibility positions, embrace opportunities to showcase your capabilities, and never underestimate the impact of your presence and expertise.

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges in my field right now is repairing and stabilizing enforcement operations following periods of poor management and staff turnover. At the same time, there is a significant opportunity to implement a comprehensive enforcement database and streamlined processes, which will improve case tracking, ensure consistency, and strengthen overall organizational effectiveness.

The values that are most important to me, both in my work and personal life, include ethical leadership, respect for employees, teamwork, consistency, and strong organizational practices. I strive to embody these principles in every decision I make and every team I lead.
