Her Story

About Prisma

I have been working as a research associate for over 5 years, and I've been in this field for over 10 years total. My journey in scientific research began during my undergraduate studies at the University of Connecticut and has continued ever since. Throughout my career, I've worked as an independent research lead and fellow across Connecticut, Massachusetts, and the DC-Maryland area. I maintain affiliations with hospitals and academic institutions, and I'm proud to be a contributor and author on papers published in scientific journals. My main area of expertise is in biophysics, which combines biology and physics. Day to day, I focus on engineering workflows for projects, and I've recently started incorporating AI tools into my work. I'm incredibly grateful for the funding opportunities I've had, particularly being able to participate as a fellow with organizations like the NIH and the Food and Drug Administration. Most recently, I earned two AI certificates to demonstrate my knowledge base of AI and LLMs, which has been very helpful for industry applications and using AI as a tool in my research.

01What do you attribute your success to?

I'm very grateful for the funding opportunities I've had and how I was able to be a participant in general. Being able to participate as a fellow with organizations like the NIH and the Food and Drug Administration has been instrumental in my journey. I was inspired to pursue this work from a very young age, around 6 years old, through my dad and the programs he ran. These were science-related summer activities and other educational programs, either directly from the town I lived in or through partnerships with in-state or out-of-state schools. As a participant, I would apply to these programs, and I knew early on that I would have to excel at English and learn concepts that would require mastering different skills. I understood that I needed to learn to read well and then build on that foundation. Being able to participate in these programs and receive funding throughout my career has been something I'm truly grateful for.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I think if I were a woman leader of a group, I think it would be like a case-by-case basis. I don't know exactly, I think it would depend on the person. I would want to make sure that it's the right advice for each individual woman.
