Her Story
About Rachel
I have been working in the chemical industry for about a year and a half, though I've worked in trade shows for over 10 years through my marketing work. I come from an acting background with a strong background in sales and marketing, combined with an environmental science degree. I just love science, so getting into marketing for a chemical company was a great transition and being a spokesman allowed me to utilize all of my skill sets. In my current role, I oversee my account, do sales calls and farm for leads. I do a lot of traveling, going to trade shows to speak about the brand, and I visit clients or potential clients to inform them of upcoming things, touch base, and make sure they're happy. I'm also going to start speaking at some of the trade shows, and I do a few commercials here and there for the company. I also do social media for the California Glass Association, which I've been doing for about a year now. I started taking videos and posting them because I'm good at it from my acting work, and they approached me about an opportunity to volunteer to do their social media.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My biggest piece of advice for anybody in any industry is just do the best at whatever you're doing. My way of getting to where I am is I followed my heart, I followed my passion, and I found other skills that also would transfer well. I think as long as you try your best at anything, you will succeed, because there are lots of people out there that just aren't willing to try. Don't be afraid to reach out to other people and ask for advice. People in the glass industry are extremely helpful, extremely welcoming. Although there's a lot of terminology and different aspects to learn, they're more than happy to help you out, because they're just happy you're there. So don't be shy.
02What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
My main value when it comes to my professional life is honesty. I really love just being upfront and honest, and I know that's not typical, but that's important to me. I think about the companies that I work for, because if I don't believe in their model of business or the product or something, it's just not gonna be a fit for me. You have to find something you love about it.
