Some of life's most meaningful chapters don't arrive on our timeline. A reflection on growth, delayed opportunities, and the lessons learned by continuing to move forward even when the destination isn't clear.
Her Story
About Rahena
I've always been curious about people, which is what led me to Industrial-Organizational Psychology and a career focused on organizational design, workforce strategy, leadership development, and organizational effectiveness. I enjoy helping leaders and teams navigate change, solve complex challenges, and create environments where people can thrive.
As a first-generation college graduate and daughter of West Indian immigrants, I grew up understanding the value of education, resilience, and continuous learning. Those experiences continue to shape how I approach both my work and life. Some of my greatest lessons have come through uncertainty, whether from career transitions, personal challenges, or simply taking chances on myself and trusting the process.
Today, I'm pursuing a Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) with a specialization in Organizational Leadership and Development. Outside of work, I serve on the Board of Directors for The Sandra Singh Foundation, supporting initiatives focused on breast cancer advocacy, women's health, and honoring Caribbean heritage. Above all, I'm passionate about helping people recognize their potential and creating opportunities for growth.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Rahena
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to curiosity, resilience, and a willingness to keep learning. I've never been someone who waits to be told what to do. If I'm interested in something, I research it, ask questions, and figure it out. As a first-generation college graduate and daughter of immigrant parents, I was taught that education is something no one can take away from you. That mindset has stayed with me throughout my career and continues to push me to grow both personally and professionally.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
I've learned some of the best career advice through experience.
Being laid off taught me that your value as a person and employee isn't always tied to a business decision. Sometimes business is business. It was frustrating, but it reminded me not to let one setback define how I see myself or what I'm capable of accomplishing. Careers are rarely linear, and some of the biggest opportunities can come from the chapters you never planned for.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Don't let your background determine how far you think you can go. Start where you are, stay curious, and keep learning. Some of the most successful people I've met didn't have all the answers when they started. They were willing to ask questions, take initiative, and keep showing up. Confidence often comes after experience, not before it.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Organizations are navigating constant change, from technology and AI to shifting workforce expectations. One of the biggest opportunities is helping leaders and employees adapt without losing sight of the human side of work. The organizations that will be most successful are the ones that can balance innovation, business needs, and employee experience.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Curiosity, resilience, integrity, and service. I believe in working hard, continuing to learn, and helping others grow along the way. I also value giving back to causes that matter to me, whether that's supporting breast cancer patients, women's health, and Caribbean communities through The Sandra Singh Foundation or helping bring hope to children and families facing critical illnesses through my volunteer work with Make-A-Wish. At the core of everything I do is a belief that small acts of support, encouragement, and opportunity can have a lasting impact.
