Her Story
About Shanita
Throughout my professional journey, one of the most important aspects of my success has been aligning myself with strong teams and a meaningful support system. I have been incredibly fortunate to be surrounded by supportive friends, family, mentors, and community members who have encouraged and uplifted me throughout every stage of my career. Their support has impacted me not only professionally, but also personally, mentally, and emotionally in ways that are difficult to fully express.
As a Black woman in the AEC industry, particularly within highly technical and design-focused roles, there have often been limited examples of visible representation in the spaces I occupy. Navigating an industry where few people look like me has come with its own unique challenges, but it has also strengthened my sense of purpose, resilience, and commitment to excellence. Those experiences continue to shape how I show up in both my professional career and my entrepreneurial practice.
My work centers around creating visual representations of systems, environments, and concepts that do not yet physically exist. From developing detailed 3D models and 2D design documentation to producing immersive photorealistic renderings and cinematic animations, I help transform ideas into tangible visual experiences. What excites me most is the visionary aspect of the work — the ability to imagine, design, and visually communicate future spaces before they are built.
That same visionary spirit extends into my work as a professional visual artist. I see a natural connection between art, architecture, and visualization because each discipline requires creativity, intuition, storytelling, and the ability to bring unseen ideas to life. Whether through fine art or digital visualization, I am passionate about creating work that inspires connection, emotion, and possibility.

01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to a combination of resilience, creativity, faith, and the support system that has surrounded me throughout my journey. I’ve learned the importance of remaining grounded in my vision while continuing to evolve, adapt, and grow through every season of my career.
A major part of my success has come from my ability to merge both the technical and creative sides of who I am. I’ve embraced the intersection of art, design, visualization, and storytelling, which has allowed me to bring a unique perspective to the AEC industry as well as my work as a professional visual artist. I believe my ability to translate ideas into immersive visual experiences has become one of my greatest strengths.
I also attribute my success to perseverance and self-belief. As a Black woman working in spaces where representation is limited, I’ve had to navigate challenges with determination, confidence, and a willingness to continuously sharpen my skills and expand my knowledge. Every obstacle has strengthened my resilience and reinforced my purpose.
Most importantly, I attribute my success to the people who have supported and encouraged me along the way — my family, friends, mentors, collaborators, and community. Having people who believed in me, poured into me, and reminded me of my gifts has made an immeasurable impact on both my personal and professional growth.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
One of the best pieces of career advice I’ve ever received was to honor and fully express my gifts. I believe my creativity, brilliance, and artistic vision are divine gifts, and I’ve learned that I am at my best when I allow myself to create authentically and lead with those strengths.
That advice taught me not to minimize my talents or separate creativity from professionalism, but instead to embrace them as essential parts of my purpose and the value I bring to the world. Whether through art, design, visualization, or storytelling, I’ve realized that my work has the power to inspire, connect, and help people see new possibilities.
It also reminded me that success is not just about achievement, but about alignment — aligning with the work that genuinely lights me up, trusting my vision, and allowing my gifts to evolve and expand over time.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would encourage young women entering this industry to believe in themselves, follow their dreams, and never underestimate what is possible for their lives. Have faith in your vision, your abilities, and the unique perspective you bring to the table, even in environments where representation may be limited.
There may be challenges along the way, but don’t allow obstacles, fear, or the opinions of others to make you question your value or potential. Continue learning, sharpening your skills, and showing up with confidence and authenticity. Your creativity, intelligence, and voice deserve to take up space.
I also believe it’s important to stay connected to what genuinely inspires and fulfills you. When you lead with passion, purpose, and perseverance, opportunities begin to align in powerful ways. Most importantly, remember that your dreams are valid, your gifts matter, and with faith, dedication, and consistency, all things are possible.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest opportunities in the AEC and visualization industry right now is the growing demand for immersive and highly realistic visual communication. Clients and stakeholders want to experience projects before they are built, and advancements in 3D modeling, photorealistic rendering, animation, virtual reality, and emerging AI technologies are transforming the way ideas are presented and understood. There is a tremendous opportunity for creatives and designers who can blend technical expertise with artistic vision to create meaningful, immersive experiences.
I also believe there is a growing opportunity for more diversity, representation, and innovation within the industry. As the field continues to evolve, there is increasing value in diverse perspectives, creative thinking, and multidisciplinary approaches that merge technology, art, storytelling, and design.
At the same time, one of the ongoing challenges is navigating an industry that can sometimes be highly demanding, fast-paced, and resistant to change. For many women and underrepresented professionals, there can still be barriers related to visibility, representation, and access to opportunities. However, I believe those challenges also create space for meaningful progress, leadership, and the ability to inspire future generations entering the field.
Another major challenge — and opportunity — is staying adaptable as technology rapidly evolves. The industry is continuously changing, and professionals who are willing to learn, evolve, and embrace innovation will be the ones who continue to thrive. For me, that evolution is exciting because it allows creativity and technology to work hand in hand in ways that are reshaping the future of design and visualization.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values that are most important to me in both my work and personal life are self-care, radical self-love, balance, peace, and authenticity. I deeply value taking time to pause, reflect, and reconnect with myself through stillness, creativity, and spending time immersed in nature. I also cherish meaningful time with loved ones and the sense of grounding, support, and connection that those relationships bring.
Over time, I’ve learned that maintaining a healthy work-life balance is essential for both mental and physical well-being, even though it is not always encouraged or prioritized in many professional environments. Learning how to advocate for myself, protect my peace, and create boundaries that support my well-being has been an important part of my personal and professional growth. It has not always been easy, but it is something I now recognize as vital and non-negotiable.
I also strongly value respect, integrity, and being treated with dignity in every space I enter. I believe people do their best work in environments where they feel valued, supported, and respected. Whether through my professional work, creative practice, or personal relationships, I strive to lead with compassion, intention, and authenticity while encouraging others to honor themselves in the same way.
At the core of everything I do is the belief that success should not come at the expense of our well-being. Creating a life and career that feels aligned, fulfilling, and sustainable is something I continue to intentionally prioritize.
