Her Story

About Sharon

Sharon Williams Jones is a respected community leader, assistant pastor, mentor, and founder of Phenomenal Women, a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering women and young women through education, encouragement, and personal development. Based in Pensacola, Florida, Sharon has spent more than four decades building programs that strengthen self-esteem, leadership, and community involvement among women of all ages. Alongside her role as Executive Pastor at Freewill Ministries, she leads community outreach initiatives, women’s conferences, and mentorship programs designed to help individuals discover their value, purpose, and potential. Known for her compassionate leadership style and unwavering commitment to service, Sharon has positively impacted the lives of hundreds of women throughout her career. One of Sharon’s most enduring accomplishments is the development of her long-running debutante program for teenage girls ages 15 to 19, which she has led for more than 35 years. Through this program, she teaches social graces, leadership, self-respect, community engagement, and confidence-building skills that help young women navigate adolescence with purpose and dignity. Over the years, more than 500 participants have graduated from the program, many carrying forward the lessons and mentorship they received into their adult lives. Sharon also regularly organizes conferences, speaker panels, retreats and outreach events that address topics affecting women and families, creating spaces for growth, healing, and empowerment within the community. Before dedicating herself full-time to ministry and nonprofit leadership, Sharon built a successful 32-year career in human resources management, including leadership roles at the University of West Florida. She credits her extensive experience in HR, training and development and mediation training with shaping her organizational skills, professionalism, and ability to connect with people from all walks of life. Recognized by local leaders for her service to the community, Sharon continues to lead with integrity, persistence, and compassion. Whether mentoring young women, speaking at community events, or supporting families through ministry, she remains deeply committed to helping others understand their worth, maintain strong values, and pursue lives of purpose and excellence.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Sharon

01What do you attribute your success to?

I believe my success is rooted in the strong work ethic I've developed throughout my career. My 32 years of experience in HR have carried over into so many aspects of what I do today. Those years provided me with a solid foundation in working with people, staying organized, and managing the administrative side of operations. Over time, these skills have become second nature to me. What may seem effortless to others is really the result of decades of experience, learning, and dedication. As people often tell me, "You make it look easy."

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

I think the best career advice I've ever received is to maintain your value. Continue learning, growing, and developing your skills so that you remain relevant and can contribute meaningfully wherever your career takes you.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice would be to know who you are. Be confident and secure in yourself. Understand your value and recognize your worth. From there, focus on being consistent in everything you do and maintaining a strong work ethic. Those qualities will help you build credibility, earn trust, and create opportunities throughout your career and life.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges is finding committed and consistent people. Many individuals start out strong, but over time their commitment fades. Building and maintaining a dedicated workforce can be difficult. Having someone stay committed for years, as I have throughout my career, is rare. As a result, you're often having to recruit, train, and develop new people all over again.

At the same time, the greatest opportunity is being able to pour into someone's life and watch them blossom. There is tremendous satisfaction in seeing people grow, gain confidence, and reach their full potential. Over the years, I've had former participants come back and tell me, "I was in your program. You helped build my self-esteem," or "You taught me to value myself." Hearing those words means so much to me.

To see someone become successful—whether as a pharmacist, dentist, educator, business owner, or in any other profession—is incredibly rewarding. I've worked with more than 600 individuals, and whenever one of them comes back and says, "Ms. Jones, do you remember me?" and shares their accomplishments, it reminds me why I do this work.

The greatest reward is knowing they are successful, stable, confident in who they are, and now in a position to give back to others. It's a domino effect: I poured into them, and now they are able to pour into someone else. That's the kind of impact that lasts for generations.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values that are most important to me in both my work and personal life are integrity, consistency, commitment, and service to others. I believe in doing what I say I'm going to do and treating people with respect and fairness. I also value a strong work ethic because I know that success doesn't happen overnight—it comes from being consistent and committed over time.
Another value that is very important to me is investing in people. Throughout my career, I have found great fulfillment in encouraging others, helping them recognize their worth, and supporting their growth. Whether in my professional life or personal relationships, I believe in pouring into others and helping them become the best version of themselves.
I also value lifelong learning and personal growth. My 32 years in HR taught me that there is always something new to learn and that growth comes from being open to new experiences and challenges. Above all, I strive to make a positive impact and leave people better than I found them. That's what gives my work and my life meaning.
