Sharon Taubert is a finance professional and consumer credit advocate whose career has been dedicated to helping individuals achieve financial stability and long-term independence. She began her career at the Consumer Credit Counseling Service of Nebraska as an executive assistant supporting the board of directors, where she quickly developed a passion for financial literacy and client service. Over time, she advanced to Vice President, overseeing the housing department and leading efforts in loan refinancing and home equity solutions. During the 2007–2008 housing crisis, Sharon played a critical role in helping families avoid foreclosure, contributing to programs that processed and repaid more than $2 million per month to creditors while equipping clients with the knowledge to stay out of debt.

In her leadership role, Sharon managed a wide range of responsibilities, including human resources, public relations, advertising, budget oversight, and reporting to state and national agencies. Her work consistently focused on empowering individuals through education and practical financial solutions. Following her tenure in credit counseling, she expanded her experience into tax preparation and wealth management support. She currently works seasonally with H&R Block, assisting clients during tax season, and provides part-time support to a financial planner with Emeritus Wealth Management, where she continues to deepen her knowledge in estate planning, investment strategies, and insurance.

Sharon remains a passionate advocate for financial literacy, particularly at the foundational level. She believes strongly that young people should be equipped with practical financial skills early in life and has actively worked to advance this mission. She collaborated with a Nebraska state senator to promote financial literacy in school curricula and helped develop “The Wise Use of Credit,” an educational program created in partnership with the University of Nebraska Omaha that was shown to freshmen for six years. Guided by a commitment to lifelong learning, service, and responsible financial practices, Sharon continues to make a meaningful impact by helping individuals and communities build stronger financial futures.

Q

What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to remaining teachable throughout every stage of my career. I’ve been fortunate to have strong mentors—especially a president/CEO who guided and challenged me—and I’ve always been willing to learn from those around me. I was also raised with a strong foundation in budgeting and the wise use of credit, which shaped both my personal and professional approach to finances.

Q

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best advice I’ve received is to remain teachable. No matter how much experience you gain, there is always something new to learn. Being open to growth and willing to adapt to change has made a significant difference in my career.

Q

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would encourage young women to stay teachable and seek opportunities to learn on the job. Don’t overlook vocational or specialized skills—they can open doors to meaningful and well-paying careers. It’s also important to practice the wise use of credit early on, as financial responsibility is a key foundation for long-term success.

Q

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges is the rising level of consumer debt and the lack of widespread financial literacy education. There is a real need to integrate these skills into school curricula so individuals are better prepared from a young age. At the same time, there are ongoing challenges in our communities related to housing and homelessness, which highlight the importance of education, resources, and support systems.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values that guide me are being teachable, providing strong customer service, giving back to my community, and practicing financial responsibility. I believe in treating people with care and respect while helping them build a more secure and informed future.
