Her Story

About Sydney

My professional journey has taken me through several different fields, each shaping who I am today. I started as a paralegal and legal assistant in Chicago, Illinois, where I spent about 6 years developing strong legal administrative skills, assisting attorneys, and honing my organizational abilities. I then made a significant career shift to become an esthetician, opening my own studio in Wilmington, North Carolina, where I currently live. I ran that business for about 3 years before closing it in February of this year to pursue a new path. Running has been a passion of mine for the past 12 years, and I grew up as the daughter of a distance runner, watching my mom run marathons every year as a child. I ran my first marathon when I was 18 with my mom, and to this day, I've completed 10 marathons. This passion led me to become a running coach, a role I've held for 2 years now, working through a gym here in Wilmington. Now, I'm the founder of Lunaro, an app that I'm launching to help women create intelligent paths forward in their individual fitness journeys. The app integrates data from existing fitness apps like Strava, Ring, and Natural Cycles, and uses an AI coach component to create optimized workouts based on a woman's 28-day hormone cycle and its four phases, rather than the typical 24-hour hormone cycle blueprint designed for men. I'm extremely excited and proud of this app, especially because I don't have a tech background, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to expand my horizons and skill set by understanding areas of coding and the tech industry that I never was exposed to before.

Ten minutes with Sydney

01What do you attribute your success to?

I would say the support of my family and the people around me that encourage and influence me to always keep reaching for more, and that nothing is impossible. There's so much that you can achieve when you work hard, and really, it's the support and the people around me that have made all the difference.

02What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

I would say learning in our ever-changing world how AI is becoming involved, and trying to find that white space in the femtech industry to create something. I'm humble enough to admit that I'm not the first one to think of this concept. I just really wanted to create a space where integrations from other apps can come in, because to me, as a person, there's just so much information and data available. Finding a solution for that was a challenge, but also, I'm very confident in creating that. So I would say just, it is a crowded space, and just finding the niche to help others.

03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

I would say if I had to pick three of my greatest values, I would say ambition is something that I value a lot in others, and seeing that courage to strive to achieve more. I'd say integrity, going along the lines of always being honest, humble, and consistent. And I think trust - trusting in yourself, and finding and building a community of trust really just goes so far in the professional and personal world of progressing through life.
