Her Story
About Ximena
I work for AMN, a staffing industry company, where I serve as senior director for managed service provider clients. In this role, I am the face of the account and work in a client-facing capacity, collaborating with teams from account management to credentialing to supplier partners. I meet with clients for Quality Business Reviews and provide workforce solutions. My most notable professional achievement was during COVID when I was in the middle of the epicenter in New York City. I was able to bring more than 2,000 staff to make sure we maintained patient care across New York City Health Systems, and I kept my business, meaning I did not lose any clients during the pandemic. I hold a Master's in Business Administration that I earned in 2011, and I have a leadership certificate from Korn Ferry. I am a member of ACHE (American College of Healthcare Executives), NAHLÉ (National Association of Hispanic Leaders and Executives), and the American Staffing Association. Through the American Staffing Association, I volunteer as a mentor and SME where I welcome new members and mentor staff. I have mentored a lot of people in my career, and right now I am mentoring someone in the manufacturing industry because leadership is leadership, and the methodology is the methodology.

01What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I was given was to get my master's in business because it's a wider, broader degree. And then after that, don't think about going after your PhD, but get certificates. Certify yourself in different areas of expertise.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Follow up, follow up. Always follow up. And the second biggest advice is don't take it personal, it's professional. Leave your personal at home and leave your professional at work. Separate those two.
03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the challenges is the effect of COVID that affected the healthcare system as a whole. Budget-wise, now hospitals and the healthcare industry is trying to tighten and reinvent themselves because with COVID, they spent millions and millions and billions of dollars. Also, educating the client on the market, what's out there. The niche on certain areas that no matter how, if even if your HR department has a position open for years and you can't get someone, that does not mean that I'll be able to get that person through the agency, through the staffing, unless you pay a premium dollar. Those are the things that I like to remind my client that the market dictates what the financials are going to be for that year.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values most important to me are being trustworthy, being transparent and ethical. It is better to over-communicate than to under-communicate.
