About Amy
I'm the Executive Director for a non-profit organization in Rockland, Maine, contracted with Maine Health as part of the Maine Health Home and Hospice team. I'm responsible for state regulations, compliance with Maine Health regarding our volunteers and their training, and hospice intake where I connect hospice patients with our volunteers, which is part of Medicare and free for patients. Our volunteers come to people's homes or facilities, or to our hospice house in Rockport, Maine, as a friend and neighbor for companionship and respite to support the family. We also provide bereavement services when someone passes away, support services for parents that lost a child, a women's group for those who have lost their husbands, and a monthly drop-in group in Camden, Maine. Before this role, I was an executive assistant at a nursing home facility called the Knox Center owned by Maine Health during COVID, which was a critical time for our aging population in the mid-coast of Maine. We were under lockdown and people weren't allowed to see their families, so we were there to support our residents and the medical staff. I was responsible for putting all the data for the COVID tests into a database, which was really important and critical at the time. Working there, I really saw how the aging population in the Midcoast domain really needed full community support. I then segued into the position as administrative coordinator and worked for the organization for about three and a half years before being hired as executive director in January. I've always gravitated towards helping people and supporting the community - I used to work for Habitat for Humanity, and it's just something that's always called to me.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Your heart has to be in it, because you have to wear many hats, it's hard work, and you're not gonna make the money that you'll make in the public sector. But it's worth it if you're passionate about the cause, in the long run, for just you individually.
