Her Story
About Anmol
I recently graduated with my Master's in Law with a specialization in Business Law from Berkeley Law just two weeks ago, and I'm currently preparing for the California bar exam scheduled for July 28th and 29th. Before moving to the US, I worked for around 6 years in corporate laws, M&A, and transactional activities in India. My last role was with OBVN Matter in Mumbai, a corporate compliance consultancy service. Before that, I worked as a corporate advisor at a publicly listed IT distribution company in India, where I was responsible for all the regulatory filings, board governance, shareholder governance, ESG, raising debt and equity, getting them listed on the stock exchange, and ensuring all filings were done with the Securities Exchange in India, as well as taking care of all the legal contracts of the company. I've worked on multiple high-stakes transactions, including managing a consortium of agreements between 9 different bankers for a working capital agreement that went to around 8 billion Indian rupees during COVID, and I was responsible for raising equity and getting them listed on the stock exchange for around 400 million Indian rupees. In my last company, I started in corporate compliance but also began looking after legal agreements for around 6 group companies, which involved negotiating and dealing with all stakeholders. I was also chair of the sexual harassment committee in two locations in India. I led a major project to dematerialize shareholding from physical to electronic form, coordinating with around 600-800 shareholders within a time-bound activity. My path has been unique because I started as a company secretary in India, which is like what a general counsel does here in the US. While working full-time, I got my law degree, and I already had a bachelor's in commerce when I qualified as a company secretary. I also earned an additional post-grad diploma in IP. Berkeley Law has been a really good addition to my education and experience, helping me extend my horizon not just to domestic Indian laws but to global laws, especially with AI and the new tech laws that have become really important to companies right now. My expertise is in corporate and securities laws.

Ten minutes with Anmol
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to my work ethic. The discipline to show up and do something that you know you have to do, without having somebody else follow up with you or remind you over and over again that this is something you have to do or this is how you should better yourself. I think discipline and continuous improvement in what you do is the most important thing. Work ethic is the most important.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I've ever received is to have accountability for whatever you do. Because regardless of what result you end up with, whether it's right or wrong, you have to own it. Ownership and accountability are the most important things that we need to build in ourselves for any kind of work we take up, whether big or small.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would advise them to just dive into it and not worry about how you are going to end up performing. I've had this advice given to me very early in my career when I wasn't really sure whether I'd be able to do it or not, or whether I'm capable of doing it or not. Nobody should let you feel even the tiniest hint of doubt in yourself, and you just have to dive into it and not worry about whether you would be able to give out the result or not. Life will surprise you at times. You might not believe in yourself earlier, but when you end up finishing that task, you might just be surprised at how well you can end up doing.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
I think work ethic, the discipline to show up, and the discipline to do something that you know you have to do, without having somebody else follow up with you or remind you over and over again that this is something you have to do or this is how you should better yourself. I think discipline and continuous improvement in what you do is something that I value most.
