Her Story
About Anna
I grew up in Italy and got a three-year bachelor's in economics and management at the University of Bolzano, which is a trilingual university where we studied English, Italian, and German. I did an exchange semester at the University of Bremen in Germany for 5 months, and there I also practiced my German and got a C1, which is a European certificate for really good knowledge of German. Then I moved to Milan to do my master's in marketing management, a two-year program at Bocconi, which is a great business school in Italy that's highly ranked in QS and all those kind of ratings. I did an exchange semester at Carlson at the U of M, getting like kind of like a scholarship for merit, being selected to go there. Then I came back, I got my internship, and then worked there for a year in the consulting luxury firm. Since I'm half Italian, half American, I decided I wanted to move to the U.S. to work, looking for better opportunities since the economy's doing better over here, but also for a more personal reason - I wanted to come live here. I have some family here, and I really love the U.S. Now I'm here in the U.S. working in real estate, where I assist the principals of the firm and help them stay on track with a marketing eye to it.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Anna
01What do you attribute your success to?
I think, you know, at the end of the day, we're all just people, so having a connection with the people that you work with is important, and that helps with everything. And perseverance, I guess. So not backing down from challenges, even if they are outside of your comfort zone.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I think just to really believe in yourself, because you can really do what you put your mind to, and it is tough initially, but surround yourself with the right people in the right environment, and that's how you can grow and learn.
03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
I think in general, like, the work situation in Italy is very different than the one in the US, so there's different expectations and standards, so it's just, for me at the moment, it's just kind of understanding how those U.S. standards are compared to what I was used in Italy. I'd say that's probably the main one.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
I think probably the most important one for me is empathy. Like, I think I'm a very empathetic person, and I do bring that in my work. So that's one, but then I guess just, like, honesty and hard work, I guess.
