Her Story

About Ariauna

Before founding Circle of Luna, I worked extensively in customer service, where I learned that words matter and how you treat individuals makes a real difference in that one-on-one connection with people. I then served in the Army for 8 years, starting out as a soldier and a mother, which taught me how to become a great leader to other mothers in the military. Throughout my education program and social work program, everything came together for me to create Circle of Luna to support mothers and families like myself. I had complications throughout my pregnancy and childbirth, and I was blessed to be in the military at that time with resources to support me down the line. Understanding that there are other mothers facing those same challenges but don't have the same resources is heartbreaking, so I started this work to be that support. I'm currently completing my MSW and will be graduating this upcoming May. I'm grounding my social work studies with my undergraduate degree in education, giving me about 3 years total in this field. I've partnered with March of Dimes as a community health champion, which requires seeing 25 patients, getting at least 12 of them pathways to care, attending meetings, and advocating for women's rights, maternal health, and preconception health.

01What do you attribute your success to?

I think my proudest moments have been able to recognize not only my strengths, but everyone else's strengths, and work together. I think just finding my place and where I fit in this world so that I can provide the best care possible has been key. I've been blessed to have amazing mentors throughout my journey. In the military, we had a couple that were amazing, but in this season right now, I would give it up to educators. My fourth grade teacher, Ms. Wilder, just called me on a Facebook post, and she was huge. Dr. Smith Gray from my education program and Dr. Bates from my MSW have poured so much into me. Dr. Smith came back from education and pulled me in this year to facilitate something. Having those people makes a difference, and it shows you that you can do that for someone else.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

It is okay to be who you are. You have a strength in who you are. The second you find it, thrive in it.

03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Support from other women is amazing and the biggest thing for me. When women out there tell their story, even if it's just a small piece of their story that connects, it's like, okay, they're doing it too, and that supports you. I love to travel because you get to soak in other people's cultures, even just down the road in the United States, which is so diverse. I love traveling outside of the country too because you get to see what other individuals value. Like for my honeymoon, we went to Egypt, and it was an amazing experience to see how different cultures are, and then being able to take pieces back with you to incorporate in your day-to-day life. You see the differences, but then you see how everybody's still essentially the same, but how everybody has their own practices to do everything. Of course, being with my family is most important when I have time outside of my busy work and school.
