Her Story

About Brittney

I specialize in public relations with a focus on crisis communications, strategic planning, and brand activations. We specifically work in the sports, hospitality, and regulated industries, which includes aviation, cannabis, and the beverage industry. Regulated industries are very specific because they're governed by municipalities and have to deal with the public, so they have complicated things they need to express to the public in creative, engaging, and informative ways. That's where we come in and really excel. My key responsibilities include strategic communications and thought leadership planning for our clients, as well as overall business development. We're in a scaling phase right now and just released a product that we've gotten certified from an institution, so we're working to grow that program. My most notable achievement is starting this business and having it grow with an amazing team. After my first business didn't work out, I learned so much from working in nonprofits about fundraising, which is a unique skill that not everybody in the PR and branding world has, and it's really enhanced what we can do for our clients.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Brittney

01What do you attribute your success to?

I started this business after realizing I was so unhappy with where I was at, and my leader at the time showed me all the ways I did not want to be like her. What really makes me love what I do now is that we get to work with people that are mission-driven. Obviously they want to make a profit, but they also want to make an impact, and I love that we get to work with people that have the same vision and mission that we have. It's about finding clients who share our values and working together to make a difference, not just make money.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I've ever received is to remain authentic. Someone also told me to think like a white man when it comes to business, and it really helped. Men in general apply for jobs they're not all the way qualified for, but they still go for it. You need to have that same zest, because more than likely, we are qualified. And if not, we know we can rise to the occasion. Women in general over-prepare and always think we have to have every single qualification, but we need to have that self-imposed importance that men have.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would tell her to really trust in herself, trust your gut, and go after anything that you want. Don't hold back or second-guess yourself. Have confidence in your abilities and pursue your goals with determination.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

I think a challenge is definitely AI, because I know that a lot of journalists and other publications will not accept a pitch or something like that if it's 100% AI-generated. So we're really getting around how do you use technology to leverage and streamline your process, but also relying on humans, because that's still what connects. Humans still connect with other humans. It's like you can use AI as a tool, but don't 100% rely on it, because it takes away the human element. It's a balancing game.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

We have a little acronym that we use both at work and in my personal life, and I realized these were the values of my business because they're also my life values. They are: integrity, a growth mindset, passion (because if you're passionate about something outside of work, you can bring that same passion to your work no matter if you like everything you're doing), commitment to excellence, and knowing that you're a part of a team, so teamwork and also individual initiative are very important.
