Her Story
About Diane
I have been in my industry for over 36 years, and it's been a journey that I've enjoyed. I started in the business, and then once I started with the system, they offered me to teach, so I started teaching. As an instructor and department head supervisor, my days are spent teaching pretty much all day in the business program and tending to over 12 instructors, helping and guiding students each day. I enjoy being the department head supervisor because that makes me go above and beyond helping instructors with their program, helping them with daily schedules, and interacting with students. The most rewarding thing for me is seeing the students graduate and get into their career jobs. That's what I love most about my career. I value working with great people on my job, and I value all the steps that took me to get to where I am right now.

Ten minutes with Diane
01What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I've ever received is don't take things too personal when students don't want to do what they're supposed to do, but eventually they will appreciate the help and be successful. This advice has helped me navigate the challenges of working with students who may not always be motivated in the moment, but understanding that they will come to value the guidance and support I provide them.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I always treat people the way you want to be treated. Continue to get educated as much as they can, more and more each day, if they can. These two principles have guided me throughout my career, and I believe they are essential for anyone entering the education field.
03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
In my industry, it's not a challenge going on, but it's just jobs that are out there for our students. I would like to see more things available so that when all students graduate, there are jobs out there for them. This is something I think about because I care deeply about my students' success after graduation.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
I value working with great people on my job, and in my life daily is seeing my own children be successful. I just value all the steps that took me to get to where I am right now. These values keep me grounded and remind me of what truly matters, both professionally and personally.
