About Felicia
My journey in the legal field started 7 years ago when I graduated from college and joined a family law firm as a receptionist. I wanted to work at a firm first before committing to law school to see what the day-to-day was really like. After taking the LSATs and speaking with attorneys, I realized law school might not be the path I wanted to take. But I didn't give up - I talked to the owner about other opportunities because there's only so many opportunities you get when you're stuck behind a desk as reception. I moved into a legal assistant position where I could work with cases more, and they saw that I worked really well with the clients and people. I was promoted to case coordinator, handling intake for family law cases and ensuring everything was done by the North Carolina Rules of Ethics. I also became the executive assistant to the managing partner. I started working alongside the marketing manager and thought I really, really liked the marketing aspect of it, so I was able to get hands-on training from her. The firm owner thought I would be better on the market side, so I hired someone to take over my case coordinator position and moved up to marketing manager. I worked in that role for about 2 years before being recruited by my current firm, which is conveniently located right next door to my old firm. I've been here for going on 3 years now, and this firm is not afraid of trying new things and spending money to make money. We've doubled our revenue in the past year, and I've seen the firm grow tremendously - we have our second location opening up under construction and we're in the purchasing process of a third location. My main expertise today is digital marketing, which is how we get a lot of our leads and brand recognition across our multiple practice areas. As part of the executive team with our office manager, I work closely with the two managing partners on everything from managing our digital agency relationships and ROI, to running events and sponsorships, coordinating with referral sources, and overseeing our social media presence. No day is the same, and it's very hectic but very rewarding.

01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to the work ethic and values my parents instilled in me from a young age. Growing up, I always wanted to build a meaningful and impactful career, and I took pride in being a hard worker. My parents taught me the importance of dedication, passion, and truly caring about what you do, and those values have stayed with me throughout every stage of my career. Whenever I achieve something, I often think about my younger self and how proud she would be to know that I’m doing exactly what she always hoped to do. Having the support and encouragement of my parents along the way has made that success even more meaningful.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
It's always a no until you ask. That's how I've gotten the majority of opportunities that have brought me to where I am today. People, especially people you work for, they like to see that you want more, and so don't be afraid to just ask if you can have the opportunity. If you want growth, just go for it and ask, because the worst thing that happens is you get rejected, but they know that you're wanting more.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would encourage young women entering this industry to trust themselves and not feel like they have to have everything figured out right away. Work hard, ask questions, and be willing to learn from every experience. I also think it’s important to find something you genuinely care about because passion makes the hard work worthwhile and helps you stay motivated through challenges.
