Her Story

About Jacquelyne (Ryan)

I'm an EA at Meta, where event planning first came into my life as a core responsibility - I help organize happy hours and social gatherings for my team. I've been officially event planning for 2 years, though I've been doing it unofficially for closer to 10 years. During COVID, when they completely shut down events and everyone was working from home, the event side of my job was removed because we weren't on-site anymore. That's when I started navigating my way into creating the Antisocial Girls Club, a pop-up event business exclusively for women where we feature local women-owned businesses as vendors. It's about creating a safe space for women to gather and hang out, and also get to network across all of our vendors. From that success came Through the Looking Glass, the other side of event planning where people actually hire me to do events for them, from weddings to birthday parties to anything in between. Through the Looking Glass has only been in fruition for about 8 months officially, but I've already done birthday parties and have 3 more on the books. My day is pretty busy - I'm also a mom, so the day starts pretty early with self-care, doing my workout, and then getting my kid off to school. I do my 9-to-5 in the office most of the time, and then my businesses come into play as my second job, my 5-to-9. It's basically the 5-to-9 a.m. shift at home with my kid, the 9-to-5 at Meta, and then the 5-to-9 shift at night at home for my side businesses.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Jacquelyne (Ryan)

01What do you attribute your success to?

I would just say my motivation in doing what I love. The growth that the Antisocial Girls Club has had over the past two years has been a pretty good accomplishment - I really dove into social media, marketing and networking, and created kind of a community of women that are just always looking for the next opportunity to gather and get together. It was a little untapped niche that our community really needed.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I've ever received is that feedback is a gift. I also think about how their perception of you is an interpretation - you might not think that you're being successful, but others see it differently.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Don't give up, and utilize networking - go to networking events, talk to people, get to know them. Just don't stop until you get to where you want to go. When you're starting off, you might not think that you're being successful, but you are. Remember that their perception of you is an interpretation.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

I wouldn't say it's in the industry per se, but for myself, it's being able to dedicate the amount of time that my business needs to scale to the level that I want it to be to be successful. I'm trying to navigate time management and how to dedicate more of myself to it so that I can eventually drop my 9-to-5.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Authenticity and genuine connection are most important to me.
