Her Story

About Jayanthi

I'm a Director with PwC's M&A Advisory, where I've been for around five years. I specialize in large deals advisory, specifically advising companies on what they do with their technology systems when they go through mergers, acquisitions, or divestitures. I work with C-suite executives and top leadership, helping them think about separations, integrations, and what to do on day one when two companies merge or when they divest a business unit. My work involves conducting deep dives into clients' technology landscapes through workshops and meetings at all levels of the organization, from informing the CTO and CIO on a weekly basis to daily conversations with VPs and individual application owners. Every day is different and every deal is unique - it's a very fast-paced environment with back-to-back calls, and I also lead a team, providing direction, reviewing their work, and coaching them. Before joining PwC, I was with Deloitte Consulting doing systems integration consulting in the public sector, where I was on a team building the integrated eligibility system for the state of Connecticut's Department of Social Services, which would be used by one in four citizens. I took a couple of years off when I had my son, and when I decided to join back, the PwC opportunity came along. I joined as a manager, moved to senior manager, and then to director. Before Deloitte, I did my MBA, and before that I was a computer science engineer who worked with Infosys for around three years.

Ten minutes with Jayanthi

01What do you attribute your success to?

I think a lot of hard work and perseverance. Plus, I would say I have this innate urge to do something well. One of my core identities is being competent, so that's what I identify with. Whatever I do, no matter what it is - it could be gardening, it could be advising the C-suite of a company, it could be parenting - I want to do it well for the inherent joy of doing something well. I've established a personal brand for myself where I am known to be competent, plus also be able to work with people without any friction. I've developed a kind of trust with my senior leadership within the firm and with all of the clients that I've worked with, just by delivering quality work. I've developed very strong relationships with both clients, within the team, within my firm, both people above me and below me, and I think that's what has contributed to my growth to be a director.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Feel the fear and do it anyway. That's been super helpful for me, because I would never - if I had waited for me not to be overwhelmed or afraid, like when I came to do my MBA, it was the first time I was stepping alone away from my home country and living by myself, so there was so much to fear. But then, you feel the fear and still pursue it, that's when you know what you're truly capable of. So feel the fear and do it anyway - it's been one of the best advice I've received.
