Katheryn Morris
Katheryn Morris (She/Her) is a proud U.S. Army veteran, strategic leader, and lifelong learner. She served as an Army medic from 2012 to 2016, following in the footsteps of her father, who also dedicated his life to military service. Katheryn’s military experience instilled discipline, resilience, and adaptability, which now guide her professional and academic pursuits. As the Founder and President of the Military Women’s Alliance at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, she empowers military-connected women through mentorship, professional development, and networking opportunities, creating inclusive, high-performing communities.
Katheryn has a proven track record of leadership and advocacy. She has mentored over 50 student veterans, launched peer initiatives, and coordinated events achieving a 60% engagement rate, expanding access to essential resources. She has streamlined workflows, designed empathy-driven leadership programs, and supported military-affiliated students and families in navigating educational benefits. Katheryn has also shared her expertise as a guest speaker for Dr. Kerr’s Graduate Professional Program, reflecting her commitment to mentorship and the development of future leaders. Her professional focus includes storytelling, strategic planning, stakeholder engagement, and turning challenges into actionable solutions.
Outside of her professional work, Katheryn is a dedicated lifelong learner with a Bachelor of Arts in Organizational Communication from UNC Charlotte and certificates in leadership, resilience, and diversity, equity, and inclusion. Her personal interests include spending time on the water, disc golfing, bullet journaling, and immersing herself in nature. She is deeply committed to causes supporting veterans and military families, including Wreaths Across America, Student Veterans of America, Quilts of Valor, Vet Bridge Home, and Wounded Warriors. Looking ahead, Katheryn aims to leverage her background in communications and veteran services to lead initiatives that enhance support for diverse populations across education, corporate, and community spaces.

What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to the strong support system that surrounds me, including my faith in God, the unwavering encouragement of my husband, and the guidance and mentorship of the faculty and staff at the University. Their collective support has been instrumental in helping me achieve my goals and navigate challenges along the way.
What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I’ve ever received is to always be my authentic self and to recognize that every conversation has the potential to become a meaningful, lasting connection if I choose to nurture it.
What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My professional advice to young women entering this industry is to confidently assert themselves. Share your ideas, contribute actively, and ensure your voice and perspective are recognized and valued.
What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges in my career has been navigating the changes implemented by the current administration, which have required adaptability, resilience, and strategic thinking to continue achieving professional goals.
What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values most important to me in both my work and personal life are balance, mindfulness, and a connection to the world around me. I prioritize being present and engaged, whether that’s through my professional responsibilities or personal interests, which include spending time on the water, disc golfing, bullet journaling, and enjoying nature.
