Ten minutes with Kaylie

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute much of my success to my family and the environment I was fortunate to grow up in. Both sets of my grandparents were not only alive throughout my childhood, but also lived nearby and played an active role in my life. My extended family was close-knit, and spending weekends together was simply part of growing up. Those relationships helped shape my values, perspective, and sense of community.

My parents also fostered a deep appreciation for the world around me. They encouraged my love of animals, supported every pet I wanted to bring home, and made sure we spent time exploring nature, especially the ocean. Through those experiences, they taught me curiosity, empathy, and respect for the environment. Looking back, I think those lessons had a profound impact on how I view the world, connect with others, and approach both my personal and professional life today.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Find what you love and follow it. Find something that genuinely interests and fulfills you, whether that's helping people, solving problems, creating things, or giving back to your community. Then find a way to build a life around it.

A lot of young people feel pressure to choose the "right" path on paper, and sometimes that's part of the journey. But if there's one thing my own experience has taught me, it's that careers are rarely linear. I've gone from studying STEM to working in law to building a career in technology. Along the way, the common thread wasn't a specific industry, it was a desire to connect with people, make a positive impact, and continue learning.

I think it's important to stay open to new opportunities while remaining true to what matters most to you. If you're pursuing something that aligns with your values and brings you a sense of purpose, you'll be much more likely to find fulfillment and success. Trust yourself, stay curious, and don't be afraid to take a path that looks different from what others expect. More often than not, the pieces have a way of falling into place.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I think there is opportunity for everyone in this space. One of the things I find most exciting about the technology industry, especially AI, is that it's reshaping many of the traditional rules around career paths and credentials. If you're an engineer who is exceptionally skilled at what you do, whether you're a college graduate, a college dropout, or even still in high school, there are opportunities available to you. Talent, curiosity, and the ability to create meaningful work often matter more than following a conventional path.

The same is true for customer success, account management, and other people-focused roles. If you're passionate about helping others, bridging knowledge gaps, and guiding people through change, there is tremendous opportunity to contribute. As AI becomes more integrated into everyday work, there is a growing need for individuals who can communicate complex ideas clearly, build trust, and help organizations adopt new technologies thoughtfully.

At the same time, I think it's important to approach this industry with empathy and awareness. AI raises valid concerns for many people, whether those concerns relate to job displacement, environmental impact, or the pace of technological change. As we build and adopt these tools, we have a responsibility to acknowledge those concerns and be mindful of the broader impact our work can have. The most meaningful progress happens when innovation is paired with empathy, transparency, and a genuine commitment to helping people adapt and succeed alongside new technology.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

I think there is a lot of fear surrounding technology right now, and many conversations about AI and innovation focus on what could go wrong. While those concerns are important to acknowledge, I also think this is an incredibly exciting moment. Technology has the potential to solve meaningful problems, increase efficiency, expand access to information, and help people accomplish things that would otherwise be difficult or impossible. Like any tool, though, its impact depends on how we choose to use it and how organizations present it to the people it affects.

I believe it's important to approach innovation responsibly. We should be honest about the environmental costs associated with technology and AI and recognize that many people are concerned about how these tools may affect their jobs and livelihoods. Those concerns are real and deserve thoughtful consideration. As we continue to build and adopt new technologies, we have a responsibility to pair innovation with empathy, transparency, and accountability. The goal shouldn't be technology for its own sake, it should be creating tools that help people while remaining mindful of their broader impact on society and the world around us.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Honesty, integrity, kindness, and humility are the values that guide me most. I believe honesty is the foundation of trust, both personally and professionally, and that integrity means doing the right thing even when it's difficult or when no one is watching.

I also believe that kindness and empathy are essential to building strong relationships and successful teams. In high-pressure environments, especially when deadlines, growth targets, and financial goals are involved, it's easy to lose sight of the human side of work. But at the end of the day, we're all people trying to do our best, and how we treat one another matters.

For me, success isn't just about results, it's about how you achieve them. I think you can be ambitious, driven, and committed to excellence while still leading with compassion and humility. Those qualities create stronger teams, better partnerships, and ultimately a more positive impact on the people around us. Kindness isn't a weakness; it's one of the most important qualities a person can bring to both life and work.
