What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to strengthening my network, having the heart to help people, and being able to act in life-threatening situations. I also value building relationships and continuously gaining medical knowledge.
What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I have received is to take chances. Although it may be scary, you have to take a leap of faith.
What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
The advice I would give to young women entering the industry is to be compassionate about your work.
What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenges in the industry are working long shifts, facing trauma, and dealing with life-threatening situations while supporting families through difficult moments. Everything could be going wrong with one patient, and you have to walk into your next patients room with a smile on your face as if nothing happened.
What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Everyone deserves healthcare. Everyone deserves respect. University Health is the only safety net hospital in the area, meaning we take everyone no matter their financial or insurance information. We have wonderful social workers who help those patients find housing, get Medicare/medicaid, even find jobs. Just because someone may be without a home or support, doesn’t mean they deserve less than anyone else.
