Her Story

About Lexi

I've been in sales for almost 12 years now, and it's been quite a journey. I started right out of college with Jostens, a school recognition company, where I was a yearbook sales rep. I traveled around Ohio first, supporting a senior rep and working with schools and yearbook classes to help with sales, design, and journalism. Then I got my own territory in Nashville, Tennessee, where I was a senior rep for about three and a half years. COVID really changed things for me in 2020. Since I was 100% commissioned and schools were closing down, it was a scary time. But I also knew I wanted to continue growing my professional career, and that was challenging at Jostens because you essentially stay a senior rep for however long you run that territory. I was more promotion-oriented and wanted to change industries. So I got a job at Salesforce at the end of 2020, which took me out to Colorado. I started on the professional services team, supporting company setups of Salesforce, and then transitioned to the license side as an account executive in license sales, supporting companies from 200 to 500 employees to acquire and successfully use Salesforce products. Now I'm at Glean, where I've been for a year and a half. My role focuses on acquiring net new business through prospecting via cold calls, LinkedIn, and email, in partnership with my business development rep. I also work with existing accounts to help them grow their contracts, adopt our technology, and find new use cases for AI. This past year was a huge milestone for me. I was the top corporate account executive at Glean for quota attainment, and I got to go to President's Club for the first time in my sales career. We went to the Dominican Republic, and it was my first trip there. It was amazing. What I really love about my role is the relationship building with customers and being able to consult on the solutions they need for their business. I'm doing that today in the AI field, and it's incredibly rewarding.

01What do you attribute your success to?

I have two things I attribute my success to. First, it's the people I've surrounded myself with, like colleagues at each company. I know this is kind of silly, but I had a work wife at Salesforce who was just my biggest cheerleader. We actually carpooled to the office together, and it was so helpful to have her riding to the office in the mornings, talking about our days, debriefing after. Just having that support system is so important, so finding those people wherever you're at has been crucial. The second one is, it's kind of cliche, but I honestly feel like losing my sister kind of set me on a different path in life, in the way that I can understand the bigger picture and recognize what's important and what's not. Yeah, just keeping that kind of mindset and mentality that tomorrow's not promised has kind of changed my life, and probably my career as well.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Honestly, I would say sales in general is very challenging. I think my biggest piece of advice is celebrate the small wins. Because it can be very up and down, and sometimes you can go weeks or months without closing a deal, but being able to find something every day that you can feel good about is kind of what has kept me happy and finding success in sales.
