Margaret Thompson
Margaret Thompson is a dedicated French teacher and passionate mental health awareness advocate based in Essex County, Massachusetts. With a career spanning over a decade, she has taught French at Lynnfield High School since 2014, inspiring students from beginner to AP levels. Prior to that, she gained experience teaching at multiple schools, including Rockport High School, Parker Middle School, Melrose High School, and the Manchester/Essex Regional High School District, developing a versatile teaching approach that spans elementary to high school levels.
Margaret’s academic background includes a Master of Education in Education/French from Gordon College Graduate Program and a Bachelor of Science in Broadcast Journalism and French from Boston University. Her love for language and culture, combined with her commitment to education, has allowed her to create engaging, immersive learning experiences for her students.
Beyond the classroom, Margaret is a strong advocate for mental health awareness, leveraging her skills in fundraising and community engagement to support initiatives that promote wellbeing and understanding. The best career advice I’ve ever received is to slow down and be fully present in the moment.
What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering my industry is to have a story to tell as an author, and as a teacher, to connect with your students so they feel seen and heard—because if you can’t reach them, you can’t teach them.
What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenge in my field right now is time management, balancing the long hours and emotional demands of the job while making sure to carve out time for myself.
What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values most important to me in work and life are empathy and compassion, while I also cherish creating new memories with family and friends and enjoy activities like kayaking, reading, writing, listening to music, and road biking.
