Her Story
About Myrna
I grew up very poor in the Philippines, and my family couldn't afford to send me to school, so I put myself through school as a self-supporting student because I really wanted to make a difference for my family. I've worked overseas all my life since I was young, moving from one country to another, and eventually landed in the war zones of Iraq, Afghanistan, and Kuwait working in procurement with an American company. That procurement work was completely different from what I do now, but I've always wanted to improve myself, so whatever opportunity came my way, I learned it and saw if it could make a difference in my life and if I could share it with others. About 5 years ago, I was introduced to financial education, and I loved the idea of educating middle-class people instead of them having to hire expensive financial advisors. I learned for 3 to 4 years until I got the hang of it, then started sharing it with my friends and family. I was laid off from my job in November 2025, and that's when I went full-time as an insurance broker. Now I work on my own, educating clients about the 6 steps to financial freedom, helping them understand protection, life insurance, retirement funds, tax-free accounts, and long-term savings. I'm an agent through World Financial Group and Transamerica, and a broker with Nationwide, offering health insurance, Medicare, life insurance, and annuities. I'm a stay-at-home mom with 3 little kids, and I also make Filipino food for people in my community who place orders - just doing whatever I can to help my husband make extra income. Right now I'm focused on building relationships and trust, establishing myself in this new field, and putting myself out there to help more families.

Ten minutes with Myrna
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to my 3 kids - they are my biggest why. I just want to have the opportunity to have them get educated, because I grew up without any help. As I go forward, I would also like to help some people in my hometown in the Philippines, because poverty there is really, you know, especially where I'm from, a lot of struggle. I help my nephew and niece, trying to help them go to college and pay for their college, even though I don't have much. I just want to help them to be able to help themselves.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I've ever received is to be patient and don't quit, because if you quit, you're losing. You just have to keep moving forward.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
People go to school and learn the field, but in order to share the mission, we have to learn it - we have to be able to genuinely explain what we learned so people will be more accepting of believing in you. People can feel if you're not genuine when you're sharing what you feel, they can feel it. I want to make a difference with young people and leave the impression that I made a difference in their lives. Right now, I understand if people don't believe me because I have nothing to show for - I'm just starting. But I believe that in the long run, with patience and sharing what's good to others, it will make a big difference one day.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The opportunity in my field right now is that it's getting more popular with online advertising and all that stuff - a lot of people are doing it. But it still makes a difference when you have someone that really cares, you know, mission before the commission. That's my motto and how I put myself into this work. I'm sharing what I learned, and whatever I help, I educate them. If they don't choose to go forward and get the solution from me, it's fine - I did my part, I educated them. They have added a little bit of financial knowledge to their life and their family. That's what I'm doing right now.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values most important to me are honesty and sincerity. If you're honest to yourself, I think all people will see that. And you genuinely care for people - that's what matters most.
