Her Story
About Sabina
I've been working in healthcare marketing since 2015, with over 11 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry. My journey into this field began after my first job out of college working with Audi in Germany, where I realized I needed to do something that truly has an impact. Growing up in Africa right after the war in Rwanda, I witnessed incredible inequities and poverty, which instilled in me a deep commitment to making a difference. Healthcare marketing allows me to combine my interest in business strategy with my passion for getting the word out in communities where information doesn't necessarily reach. I work in rare diseases, focusing on conditions that are underdiagnosed, and my passion is really to get the word out around different diseases, treatment options, and letting people advocate for themselves to ask for treatment. Currently, I've been with Bridge Bio for about four and a half years, in my current role for three years. I helped set up all of our patient marketing for our very first larger commercial product launch, did a partnership with Morgan Freeman, and built a team from just myself to now eight people. What I'm particularly proud of is that we've developed award-winning campaigns, but we're also doing things differently. I have a team of people who really go out into the community, particularly in the Black community, and raise awareness around a disease that disproportionately impacts that community but where there is very little health education. I've combined the marketing aspect and commercial promotion with truly getting the word out where it matters most, doing marketing differently while making an impact.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice would be to advocate for yourself. A lot of the time we think there's someone who will find us and put us in the right role, and you'd hope that's the case. I've had amazing sponsors and mentors in my career, but you've got to advocate for yourself. You can't just sit and wait for someone to find you and put you in the right role, because chances are you'll just be missed out. It's unfortunate because I think a lot of women are so smart and so brilliant, but think about things 10,000 times when men may not be, and we're waiting for people to put us in that position. It's just a reminder that you really need to advocate for yourself to get to where you want to go. Don't be afraid to toot your own horn.
02What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
I'm a believer in just being a good person and helping others around you, and truly just seeing the positive in people. I would consider myself to be very much a people person, and being empathetic with people around you is so important. I feel like when you connect with people and truly try to see where they're coming from, what their challenges are, and what their hopes are, I think overall we're a better society that way. It's about having compassion and understanding for those around you.
