Her Story

About Samantha

I started at Milliken when I was young, getting a job in our corporate office working on a very specific section of floor covering called Walk Off. Everyone thinks it's such a small piece of the puzzle, but I found a product that I fell in love with. I had a boss who was a really good mentor for me, helping educate me not just in the floor covering world, but also on how to navigate internal politics and climbing the ladder. About a year into it, I decided I wanted to do what he was doing, but by the time I was a certain age. I worked really hard getting specialized in a product we offered called Obex, and definitely faced a lot of challenges being involved with upper management and working through different rebrands. Since I started in 2024, we grew 30% every year. I was able to take over his job and beat my time limit, and he became our global manager so we still got to work together. Becoming a specialist in that particular field was really how I got my start at Milliken and understanding the floor covering world and how it impacts the space so much. Now I represent the Charlotte area of North Carolina and the upstate of South Carolina, working with architects, designers, flooring contractors on projects in education, public spaces, offices, and national accounts.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would tell her to go for it, and to be aware of your surroundings, but to not hold anything back. We all run into challenges every single day. I don't think any job is an easy job. You're always gonna face hard decisions and hard customers and hard clients that are not always gonna like what you have to say. But you are always there to help them, and as much as you can be helpful, but also stick to your ground, stick to the right way of doing things, don't try to cut corners and get the easy way out. Don't be afraid of those hard conversations that we sometimes have to have, because when you do something the right way, it feels really good.
