Ten minutes with Sarah
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to a deep understanding of the products and services I represent. Taking the time to know them thoroughly — inside and out — allows me to speak with confidence, credibility, and clarity. I believe in never taking opportunities for granted and in consistently delivering value through preparation and discipline.
Integrity and follow-through have also been foundational. If I make a commitment, I keep it. Reliability builds trust, and trust sustains long-term relationships. Avoiding procrastination, maintaining urgency, and honoring timelines are habits that compound over time and distinguish high performers in competitive markets.
Additionally, I view authenticity as a strength. Staying grounded in my values and leading with confidence has been critical to my growth. In a traditionally male-dominated industry, I have embraced the advantages that come with being a woman in business — particularly the ability to build meaningful relationships, communicate with empathy, and connect strategically. Relationship-driven selling is powerful, and understanding the priorities of HR leaders and decision-makers has allowed me to serve clients with both insight and impact.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
““Build relationships, not transactions.”
Early in my career, I learned that short-term wins may build numbers, but long-term trust builds impact. When you focus on genuinely understanding people — their challenges, priorities, and goals — success becomes a byproduct of service rather than the sole objective. Sustainable growth comes from credibility, consistency, and connection.
I was also advised to “do what you say you’re going to do.” Follow-through is one of the simplest yet most powerful differentiators in business. Reliability builds reputation, and reputation builds opportunity.
Finally, I was encouraged to never shrink to fit a room. Bring preparation, confidence, and authenticity to every table. When you combine expertise with integrity and relationship-driven leadership, you create a career that is not only successful, but meaningful.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Own your expertise early and never underestimate the value of your perspective .
First, become a true student of your craft. Learn your product, your industry, and your client’s world thoroughly. Preparation builds confidence, and confidence changes how you show up in every room. When you speak from knowledge rather than opinion, you earn trust quickly.
Second, lean into relationship-building as a strategic advantage. Sales and business development are not about persuasion alone — they are about understanding, listening, and solving problems. Empathy, emotional intelligence, and strong communication skills are powerful assets. Use them intentionally.
Third, don’t wait for permission to lead. Volunteer for opportunities, ask thoughtful questions, and position yourself as someone who adds value. Growth often comes from raising your hand before you feel completely ready.
Finally, protect your integrity. Follow through on commitments, manage your time well, and hold yourself to a high standard. In a competitive marketplace, consistency and character will set you apart far more than charisma alone.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges HR leaders face today is meeting the growing demand for meaningful mental health and well-being support while balancing cost, compliance, and measurable outcomes. Employees expect accessible, high-quality resources — and organizations need solutions that drive engagement, retention, and performance.
The opportunity lies in repositioning well-being as a strategic investment rather than a reactive benefit. When EAPs and mental health programs are integrated thoughtfully and supported by data, HR leaders can strengthen culture, reduce risk, and directly impact business results.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Integrity, honesty, reliability, love, and respect.
