Her Story

About Shana

I've been in my field for 18 years, starting as a classically trained chemist and progressing through roles as an engineer, then in sales, and eventually into leadership positions. I currently lead strategy after previously leading the U.S. retail team and before that, a team of industrial sales leaders. My work has always been very customer-centric. In my current role, there's no such thing as a typical day - I do everything from mentoring and coaching people on my sales team to customer meetings, developing offers for customers, customer visits, leading new product development, and managing any customer relations situations that come up. I'm responsible for growing and developing business and strategy. What inspired me to get into this field was my interest in really big and weird equipment - I wanted to go into a field that was non-traditional and would allow me to see and experience the world of manufacturing in a different way. In this role, I've had the awesome opportunity to experience all different types of industries, lead people, and grow and develop myself. Beyond my corporate work, I'm also a yoga instructor and donate my talents to the community for healing, stress management, and bringing people together communally. I've incorporated so much of yoga into my own leadership styles and the way that I lead and present - it brings an amazing calm to the storm a lot of times, which has been super helpful.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Shana

01What do you attribute your success to?

I think part of my biggest success in my career has been the ability for me to have mentors along the way, and it's absolutely the reason why I take on that mentorship role myself, because it is absolutely 100% the path to your growth and to your development. Having mentors throughout my career has been instrumental, and that's why I'm so committed to mentoring others now.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best advice I've received is to keep yourself flowing like water and don't get stagnant. Just like stagnant water is bad, the same thing applies to yourself. If you get stagnant, that's not good for yourself, for your career, for your growth, for any of it. You need to keep yourself flowing and moving.

03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

As a leader, I think it's important that we bring a really positive mindset into anything that we do. Yoga has been huge for me in this regard - it's not just about the physical component, it's a lot of mental and a lot of agility that you build. It's about the way of being and living. I've incorporated so much of it into my own leadership, my own leadership styles, and the way that I lead and present, and it does bring an amazing calm to the storm a lot of times, which has been super helpful. I'm also really big into volunteering for the community, being very healthy and living a very healthy lifestyle, traveling and observing the world around me.
