Her Story
About Shannon
I've been in the medical aesthetics world for about 15 years now, starting off as a Pilates instructor when my daughter was younger, which allowed me to be present as a mom. From there, I transitioned into medical offices and got certified in CoolSculpting, obtained my licensing for permanent makeup, and jumped into microblading when it became popular. I wanted to get as many certifications as I could without having to be a nurse. I actually wanted to be an injector and was going to enroll in NEMA, an amazing school here in Nevada, but right when I was about to enroll, they changed the rules so you now have to be an RN or above to be an injector. At my age, I can't go back to nursing school for 4 or 5 years just to be an injector and then try to build a client base - I'd be [AGE]. So I've been able to do all the other work without being a nurse. I was trained by Headstrong New York in scalp micropigmentation, and I have my nutrition certification from Precision Nutrition. What has helped me most is being a patient myself - I've had several procedures done, experienced complications, and healed through those complications. This personal experience, combined with working around patients and seeing their journeys, has given me invaluable insight. I recently built my own consulting website, Shannon K. Consults, focused on private surgical consulting for clients who may need questions answered about procedures, doctor referrals, or just basic handholding through their journey. My most recent work was consulting for a medical weight loss telehealth company working with GLP-1 medications. I'm really focused on doing more private work now rather than being in an office.

01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to being able to have the time to be a mom and not being rushed to have to have a job. I was able to pick and choose positions that I really wanted to be in that interested me, and I still have that ability today, thankfully. It's been a fun job - it's not been something that's not been interesting to me or where I have to go to work. I love being there, I love talking to the patients, I love seeing their journeys and seeing how happy they are after their procedures are done and they're successful and they're healed. Even if it's the smallest little procedure to a huge one, seeing how happy patients are at the end - there's nothing better than that. That's the best part of this work for me.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
You need to read a lot and research a lot. Be knowledgeable about what's new - what are the new products, what are the new machines that are out there, like lasers and even surgical equipment. It's changing every day, what's available and what's most used. Then just talk to people who are going through procedures. When you're in an office, if you can talk to the patients and really get an idea of what they went through, how it went, and what they thought, that's invaluable. You just want to kind of talk to everybody and read as much as you can. That's the best way to learn, and then you can help other people once you have more information in your toolbox.
