The Last Mile
San Francisco, CA 94134

Sierra Robinson is an Academic Data Analyst and Curriculum Strategist at The Last Mile, where she is dedicated to empowering justice-impacted individuals through education, workforce readiness, and opportunity-driven learning pathways. Her career has a uniquely unconventional and powerful foundation. At age 17, Sierra became incarcerated due to poor decisions made in her youth. During her incarceration, she was introduced to The Last Mile program, where she learned foundational and full-stack web development skills, including HTML, CSS, and other technical competencies that ultimately positioned her to pursue employment in technology after release. This experience transformed her perspective on education and opportunity, shaping her lifelong commitment to helping others rewrite their stories through learning and skill development.

Upon returning home from incarceration, Sierra was given the opportunity to interview with The Last Mile for an entry-level Academic Success role supporting students who were still incarcerated and pursuing similar pathways toward software engineering and technical careers. She was hired as an Academic Success Representative and steadily advanced within the organization, taking on increasing levels of responsibility while expanding her impact on The Last Mile’s mission. Today, she serves as an Academic Data Analyst and Curriculum Strategist, focusing on designing and refining curriculum offerings that prepare students for workforce success after release. Her work centers on aligning educational programming with real-time labor market demands across the United States and ensuring that students gain skills that employers actively seek.

Throughout her career, Sierra has become a leader in curriculum innovation, data-driven education strategy, and reentry workforce development. She is deeply committed to creating second-chance opportunities and supporting underrepresented communities through education and mentorship. Her work includes developing new academic programming, analyzing employment trends, and continuously improving curriculum outcomes to maximize student employability and long-term career sustainability. Sierra holds an Associate’s degree in Business Administration and Management from Oakland City University and has earned professional certifications in leadership, employee coaching, and workforce development. Known for her collaborative leadership style and dedication to mission-driven work, she continues to inspire others by demonstrating that past challenges do not define future potential.

Q

What do you attribute your success to?

I want to say the number one thing is the support of my family. Without them never giving up on me through all of the very difficult things I put them through, I wouldn't be nowhere today. But also The Last Mile, having faith in me and giving me the opportunities that they have, and the platform to be able to tell my story, own my narrative, and own my own outcomes. When someone gave me the opportunity to rewrite that for myself, it really encouraged me, and I want to be someone that helps encourage others to actually change their life as well.

Q

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

I think to be passionate about continuous learning. I don't think all of us have the opportunities to continue to learn in a formal way, like college, or through different programming opportunities. But learning from everyone around you, everyone has something to teach you. I never saw myself in this position or being able to make an impact on people's lives, and I thought that I would be a criminal for the rest of my life, and that's how I would be defined. When someone gave me the opportunity to rewrite that for myself, it really encouraged me.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Helping other people is what inspired me to get into my field. I never saw myself in this position or being able to make an impact on people's lives, and I thought that I would be a criminal for the rest of my life, and that's how I would be defined. When someone gave me the opportunity to rewrite that for myself, it really encouraged me, and I want to be someone that helps encourage others to actually change their life as well. Outside of work, I really like to go hiking since I live in San Francisco where there's tons of hills all over. I crochet in my free time, I love to cook and bake. Something I really like to do or enjoy is baking and going to give it to the homeless in the area.
