Her Story
About Susanna
I spent a long time in the corporate world before finding my true calling. I supported executives and worked as an office manager for consulting firms with different vertical markets, including healthcare. When I was laid off from a job I'd held for 10 years, I didn't know what I was going to do. I was getting a treatment and mentioned to my therapist that I might go into nursing. She told me I should do what she does, that I'd been coming to her for years and would be great at it. She said I could make full-time pay with part-time work, and I thought, that's for me. I was probably the oldest student in the class at the time, but I decided to do a complete career shift, and here I am 25 years later. I owned a spa in Boston for about 11-12 years before moving to Las Vegas, and that was all before social media, just word of mouth and representing my brand well. Now I'm the owner of Sculptrice Aesthetics, where I'm trying to break tradition and what aesthetics has come to be. I've switched gears and become solely a facial sculptor, using my hands and specific technologies that are known for lifting and promoting collagen. My business was created not just as a sculpting sanctuary, but as a place where there's no rush, no noise. Vegas is a fast city, and I need that for me. I might see 3 to 4 clients, but they get 100% personalization, customization, and relaxation. Recently, I hit an absolute milestone when I was asked to teach facial sculpting internationally.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Forget about the sign on the door. If you have a boss, or a mentor, or a manager that will invest in you, and that will treat you fairly, and want you to succeed, stay with that boss, because that's something that is irreplaceable. You can go from company to company, but if you find a manager or a mentor who will really work with you and invest in you, and I don't mean just sending you to more school, I mean guiding you, leading you, letting you grow appropriately, encouraging you, don't worry about the sign on the door. The sign may be prestigious, but you could have a terrible manager, a terrible toxic situation. If you find someone who will inspire you and help you grow, stay with that person until you're ready. You don't find that everywhere. It's rare.
